That would not surprise me. Thats an odd weight/warmed viscosity. I would really want to know how different 0W-20 versus 0W-16 differs. But that is a conversation for another day.



I would NOT go 10k regardless of anything. Old school, antiquated...whatever. 5K is as far as I push my cars. My .02...my money...etc...etc. To crawl around and change it, as you say, cheap insurance. I can do a full syn change for 35 bucks. I have a car that originall said 7500k and they, after getting bit in the butt, they moved to 5K.

Toyota recommended 5k/7.5k on all vehicles from at least 1990 (I could not find owner's manuals older) until the mid 2000s.
The change? They added the "Maintenance Required" idiot light.
Rather than trigger the light at 7500, or an owner-selected interval, they just changed the documentation to reflect 5k for all vehicles, until they started to move to 0w20 and 10k intervals 10 years ago. That was the tradeoff with Toyota deciding not to put any actual intelligence into the maintenance light like Ford and GM.
Used oil analysis has repeatedly shown that 10k is fine for modern Toyota engines using 0w20 and OEM filters. I'm not aware of anyone testing 0w16 yet.
I have 76k on my '16 Corolla on 10k intervals. It uses no oil between changes, doesn't smoke, doesn't make noise on startup, runs great.
If you aren't comfortable at 10k, so be it. It certainly won't hurt anything but your wallet to change more frequently, and for most people that would only be one or two extra oil changes a year, so it's not going to break the bank.
