Tranny Woes? You're In Good Company!

Hear the one about the 2019 RAV4, the 2019 Peugeot 308, and the 2019 VW Jetta who went into an AAMCO for a couple of pints of ATF after a long week of driving?

“I’m tired of being called a jerking POS,” RAV4 said sadly.

"‘Oui. Moi aussi,” (Yes. Me too) Peugeot sighed.

"Hey there fellas. Why the long grilles? You guys are in good company,” said the AAMCO mechanic-barkeep his arm sweeping about the place.

“Was ist das?” Jetta asked bewildered.

“He’s saying that under all that sexy sheet metal we’re all running the same gearbox boys” said a cute little Swedish Volvo XC40 flashing her DRLs at Peugeot.

“Yeah! With the same problems,” said these following cars.

The Aisin AW F8FXX series is the world's first[1] 8-speed automatic transmission designed for use in transverse engine applications. Aisin designed the transmission to package in the same space as preceding 6-speed designs, while increasing the total gear spread and reducing gear spacing.[2] It is also called the TG-81SC (Volvo),[3] AF50-8 (Opel/Vauxhall)[4] or AWF8F45[5] (Cadillac). First usage was in the 2013 model year Lexus RX350 F Sport.

“Well ain’t that a kick in the Aisin,” a rusty old Studebaker said while laughing.

“I’ll drink to that,” said RAV4.

Wow, I had no idea it was such a widely used transmission. I always thought it was a Toyota/Lexus exclusive. Great post, thanks!
