I didn't say it wasn't a good safety feature, I said it's new and not tested and may be unreliable, just something else to break like the vulnerable front camera on the 360ļ Birds Eye system that can be taken out by a small rock and cost $750 to replace, that's something I can live without.

I've seen adaptive headlights more than a decade ago on non Toyotas. I would not be surprised if the tech is 20+ years in the making and was available on high end 90's vehicles.

Gasoline direct injection has been around even longer and look at all the problems many manufactures are having, just saying

These arguments are null. I could say the same thing about a tried and true technology and finish with "just saying" as well.

What would really help is looking at data established from adaptive headlights already on the roads. They seem to be doing well enough that automakers are putting them on more vehicles starting with luxury models and trickling down.

If it means I'll see better at night then I'm very interested in adding them to my build. If I was too worried about tech failing then I'd probably get a base trim of a used, older car.

Panning headlights have been around since the '20s and '30s, although not as sophisticated as today's systems. I believe that the Cord had them as mechanical setup.

That's true. Yet Toyota is known to hold out on new tech until they have it ironed out pretty well.

It was 2016 when the RAV4 got an upgraded LCD display in the instrument cluster, that wasn't 1970's LCD tech.

I'm in the U.S. and have the Adventure trim. Mine most definitely has AFHS. I have the Cold Weather, upgraded audio, and Advance packages. LOVE having adaptive headlights.

Maybe you don't know what Adaptive Front Headlight System is, it's an option only available on the Limited HV, doesn't come on any other 2019 Rav4 model.

I'm guessing that it is the automatic high beams that he is talking about, didn't understand that AFHS is an additional automatic function that. as you point out is only on the Limited HV.

Auto high beam is standard on all models, XLE and up also get auto on/off on gas and HV models, AFHS points the headlights in the direction you're turning, not just straight ahead like conventional fixed headlights.

AFHS as described in the HV product info:
