Miles until E

Ok is anyone else’s Miles until E way off? I have put 721 miles on my Rav4 and by the math am at 33.69 which I feel is awesome. But i just got gas and at the time the dash said 36.1 mpg. Anyways I’m showing 399 miles until E. Um sorry but even 30mpg is higher Miles until E. I’ve never seen such a short changed Miles until E before especially when I did math numbers and didn’t just trust the dash.

This is only a few miles after getting gas. Now it's around 41 mpg.

Damn. 45 mpg is that a hybrid? But yea that’s way off too. So weird. I was testing it out today. Fuel light came on with 14 miles until E and i only put 12.2 gallons in. So with my math i still had over 60+ miles. I at least I know I have a major cushion and to just trust my MPG display as it’s more accurate. I’ll just stick to the whole full up at 1/4 if not sooner and track my mileage with an app.

Yes, his is a hybrid, you can see the hybrid power meter on the left.

You can also see that he was driving when he took this picture and in the future he should pull over so he doesn’t kill someone.

In my four previous Toyotas the "Miles to Empty" left about a half-gallon fudge factor so you could keep driving after it hit zero. I don't recommend that. I think it's on purpose to encourage drivers to refuel before it's too late. Also, if people could run out of fuel showing 1 mile to empty some idiot would probably sue them.

I've also found that my Toyota speedometers read a few MPH faster than the actual speed. (e.g. 70 MPH shows as 72 MPH on the gauge) That was on Siennas and a Highlander. Not sure about my RAV yet.

I agree with Astro...my MPH is generally 2 miles slower than speed shown. I noticed that when using plug in gps that shows MPH. Toyotas seem to have about 3 gallons left in the tank, from my experience when the light comes on.

The DTE display I have had in many cars. Depending on how they are configured, the DTE can change when you restart your car or on the fly. If you get stuck in traffic, your DTE mileage will decrease or vise versa. They are just a guesstimate based on your previous mpg (fill up), or current situation (heavy traffic) and a guess as to the amount of gas left in the tank. My most recent cars would display a "would you like to find a gas station" on the GPS screen below 20 miles to empty.

Michael- yea my last vehicles changed of MPG changed after turning back on. This one does not. It never recalculated until i refuel. It’s just odd it’s off by so much. But whatever I’ll just use the gas gauge and hand calculate my miles.

The gas in the tank cools the fuel pump. All the alerts as to fuel status take that into account. They leave you a probability of finding a gas station before you burn up your fuel pump.
