Toyota is putting in Android Auto in Australian RAV4s late 2019

https://www.caradvice.com.au/754127/...-android-auto/

The most important bit that's coming straight from Toyota Corporate, not a dealer or some guy on Reddit or a salesman:

Quote:
The Toyota statement added: “All RAV4s delivered from the fourth quarter 2019 will have the feature already installed. Customers taking delivery of their new-generation RAV4 before that time will require a quick visit to the local dealership to have it installed at no additional cost”.
I guess Toyota could decide to not bring this update to other areas but that would be strange. Then again, from international reviews I've seen, some countries (like Taiwan) have completely different infotainment systems to the US but it does look like Australia has something very similar to the Entune system from the photos in the article.

That's great. I'm wondering if Andoid Auto will be installed in 2019 US Rav4?

Apparently the upgrade will not be free, it’ll cost you.

Toyota is upgrading Entune 3.0 in Camrys and Sienna to include Carplay.

https://www.torquenews.com/6626/grea...-apple-carplay

Quote:
Eligible Camry and Sienna owners will be notified by email starting May 15th and running through the Summer. They will be instructed to contact their local Toyota service departments to schedule their software update appointments.

Based on initial testing, installation time will run anywhere from 15 minutes to one hour. Average installation time has averaged 30 minutes so far. The length of time you will actually be waiting at your dealership for full installation depends on each individual dealership’s traditional wait times.

Toyota is recommending that dealerships perform this installation at no charge to customers, in order to improve its image as a leader in multimedia technology. However, they do caution this is determined by each dealership, and that there may be a small installation service fee charged.

Free to RAV4.
Cost to retrofit other eligible models.

According to the article, at least. Unless you know otherwise?

That's in Australia, they don't use Entune, see my previous post, service will charge flat rate for their time most likely, it's not like it's a TSB or recall to fix/repair, it's a voluntary upgrade.

For whatever it's worth (and not unexpected) here's the response to my inquiry:

Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. Inc.

We appreciate your interest in the 2019 Toyota RAV4 and Android Auto.

Toyota strives to offer products and services that match our customers' diverse driving needs, and we continuously evaluate emerging technologies for use in our vehicles. While Toyota continues to to innovate and improve the technology that is included in our vehicles, we have not announced an Android Auto rollout strategy at this time.

Odd that they didn't preclude a 2019 AA upgrade, only that they have not announced their strategy.
