Officially a Rav4 owner - Impressions

Took possession 05/10/2019

2019 XLE AWD Lunar Rock / Nutmeg interior Convenience package level 2 ($2,335)

Insanely attractive car. It's a retirement gift for my wife. I enjoy pampering her. I'll try to post a "family" portrait with our FJ and Rav4 soon.

Less than 200 miles. This is the first vehicle I've owned with "driving modes" although I'm familiar with the more traditional 4x4 traction options (FJ). I've tried Eco and Normal modes so far and normal seems just that, normal. Eco definitely gives lethargic performance. I've always appreciated "spirited" driving and owned a number of off-road racing dirt bikes in my younger days. I might give Sport mode a try today, but if the jump in proportional response to pedal input is similar going from Eco to Normal then I'd expect Sport to produce the complaints I've read from others about jerking engine/transmission issues. This doesn't sound like anything I want.

I can definitely hear the engine and I like it just like I like the sound of the V6 in my FJ winding up when I romp on it. It sounds like a revving engine! Performance is quite acceptable. Coming from an FJ it's hard t describe the Rav4 as exhibiting road or wind noise.

I like the standard stereo (XM Radio too) and I have our favorite stations lined out. the output is very similar to that of my FJ.

More impressions to come later.

I haven't experienced anything out of the ordinary with the shifting. I did try the Sport mode today. Meh, I've got no use for it. Normal works fine for me and using it I can get the Eco light approving my mileage quite often.

Still, it's a programmed transmission with 3 modes to choose from, and I didn't program it. I just pick the mode that suits me best. No complaints so far.

First Photo Shoot. Darker window tinting and mud flaps go on Thursday. Since it's AWD I had to do it off pavement.

Congrats on the new vehicle! The car looks too clean and seems out of place with the offroad/trail backdrop

Oh I agree. Today's photos were just "glamour" shots of the pristine vehicle. I won't do much dirt until the mud flaps are on. No rock chips for my wife's car.

I literally cannot say enough good things about that color. I want to get photos of both our tan FJ and the green Rav4 together. While my wife really likes her new car, she has no interest in a joint photo shoot.

Women ?!?

She also has no interest in dirt tires for it. She's agreed to let me do it, but she'd prefer I didn't. And honestly gnarly tires can't improve the beauty of her car. I'll probably leave it as is until we both decide it's a good idea.

Plus, the Terra Grapplers are only available in a larger(245) and I definitely don't want to lift it. BFGoodrich has all-terrain in the exact size but they are a beastly looking tread, more than is needed.
