Horrible AC

I'm from Toronto, so it's just starting to get warm here. On the few days we've actually needed A/C I've found the A/C to be seriously lacking. Taking a really long time to get up to anything remotely cool. Is this just how the car is or is there something wrong?

Guess start with the easiest first, are all of the dash vents open and is the recir button on? I did this in my Camry hybrid a few days ago, weather getting warmer and needed A/C but I forgot to open the left and right dash vents and it seemed like it was not cooling quickly.

Also have a 2016 Rav4 hybrid Limited and the air works fine. I would say if the dash vents are open and not getting cold air take it to the dealer. Good luck.

Turn OFF the "smart flow" or whatever its called. For the most part you should be leaving it in "auto" mode and it will select the best options for the conditions. If its not cool enough just turn the temp down a few degrees. If you want the coldest air output possible, turn off the ECO mode.

Be aware that the system adjusts output according to the outside temp. so if its only slightly warm outside you might prefer a lower temp setting.

In Puerto Rico, the AC is always on, no problems here.
High 80's and low 90's most of the time here, but always cool in my RAV.

Happily retired and doing nothing about it

If it's anything like the previous model, driving in ECO mode will definitely affect the performance of the A/C. (just in case you are)

Yes, turn of S-Flow, and turn off the ECO function, whatever that does. Also -- if you're not carrying passengers -- close all of the other vents (passenger side and rear), so you get more flow to the driver. Do all of this, and it will make an astonishingly big difference.

The first few days with my new Rav I was baffled asI swore up and down that I left the a/c settings a certain way last time I turned the car off (recirc, head/foot vents, eco, s-flow etc.).

I read the manual and apparently a bunch of stuff decides to turn itself on depending on the conditions regardless of the last setting you left it on.

I bought one of those OBD cables and messed with some of the hard coding so the s-flow and eco is permanently off (so much better for me in warm Hawaii).

The auto temp control is enough for me. I more or less rather all the air flow and vents flow the same.
