The grill emblem isn't just an emblem, it houses the millimeter-wave radar unit for the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control.

I don't put that much faith in Carfax btw. We traded a Honda Odyssey van a few years ago, was hit in the rear and repaired thru an insurance claim. The Carfax on the van, when the dealer put it back up for sale, showed that the vehicle was in for maintenance and not body work.

Unfortunately, that will only help you in a private sale, if they call you after seeing a Carfax report with a collision repair. Dealers don't deal with that kind of stuff.

Even with a new car, sometimes it puts more money in your pocket in the long run to do the repair yourself, if able, or have an body shop do it out of pocket.

Have a good day.

Be sure to tell the insurance claims people that the turkey came out of nowhere, and the collision was UNAVOIDABLE. That last word in caps is very important!

Help RAV4World members help you by providing your car's operating location in your profile page. Climate can cause a RAV4 in Dallas Wisconsin to experience a different set of issues when compared to the same model in Dallas Texas.

Were you able to keep and use the turkey, or was it demolished in the collision?
Emblem holds the radar unit for cruise control

Mine is 2-tone, black/silver. Front-end: the bottom-most silver trim piece is cracked and pulled loose thru half its length and ...... the black part/piece above it is cracked. This black piece I cannot tell if it separates or is one big piece of the center-grill.
Was the turkey insured?

(Sorry to hear, I'd be devistated by a scratch let alone a bang-up with big bird.)

Plastic is MUCH cheaper to replace. Back when I started driving (around 1960), it was real metal in grills with real chrome on much of it. Weighed quite a bit more and also hurt quite a bit more if you so miss-fortuned as to be the impact zone.

Enjoyed some of the Turkey quips . Glad you're not hurt.

Finally, I have $0 deductible Comprehensive coverage, thank the Lord

We've gone to plastic cars to cut weight and improve gas mileage, however ......... there is a price to be paid for collisions!! Don't believe the fuel savings are worth it, as repair costs increase exponentially, increasing repair costs for our insurance companies and driving UP our premium costs Hell ........ if I'd hit a deer or black bear up there, the damage even at about 40mpg would have been tremendous and there id no cell phone coverage up there in the Mountains

Ah but does the emblem have a sensor attached? Does that explain the cost?

Yes, it does on models with pre-crash, but it's only $310 with pre-crash, those without it's $42, this is for '16-'18, no one lists '19 parts yet. The milliwave radar unit sets behind it, so '19 frontal damage could potentially cost $900 just for those 2 components.

I looked at mine, there doesn't seem to be an additional sensor behind the emblem sensor like on the 4th gen, the emblem is wired tho, so maybe the '19 emblem sensor has both units in it or they relocated one of the sensors elsewhere that I can't see.
