"transmitting health information. . ." ?

I got an email from Toyota stating:
"Your vehicle (VIN: *************) is successfully transmitting vehicle health information. As part of Service Connect you will now start receiving Health Reports, Maintenance Notifications and Service Alerts."

I had been on the Toyota site to "register" my Rav4 but tried to avoid signing up for the Entune connect stuff. I either failed or the salesman did this for me. I'm big on privacy so I'm a bit unnerved. I have no intent of using any of the Entune apps, at least those that require signing on to the "service agreement" or loading apps onto my iPhone. I haven't the need to remotely start my car, will be using navigation on my iPhone, etc.

Exactly what "vehicle health information" is being collected?

I noticed on the roof of our Rav4 along with the moonroof control and interior lights is a button labeled SOS and a removable label indicating this feature transmits data to Toyota. It says pushing the button will stop the transmission. So far I haven't touched it. I just checked the manual and it looks you're correct, and signed up. Maybe I'm not. I haven't see anything yet. How long ago did you buy yours?

Whoa! According to the manual, pages 70-71, and a couple salesmen, pushing this button will "connect you to the Safety Connect response center where an agent will determine your vehicle's location ... and dispatch the necessary assistance required." How does the warning label you point out, mine says the same, jibe with that?

That's entirely possible. I may have misread it's intent. My wife has the car at work so I can't look right now.

Now I'm really glad I didn't push THAT button.

I donít think you misread, thatís what I see too. Maybe it means transmission stops after youíve made the SOS call?

When I read that removable notice I thought it meant when you activate the SOS button the first time you have the option to opt out of data collection while communicating with them, they could disable able it, likely they still can.

I think you're correct. The manual links to:

https://www.toyota.com/privacyvts/im...017-Oct-18.pdf

You have 15 days from purchase to opt out, otherwise you have, defacto, signed the agreement. This gathers a boatload of information, it's like a plane's blackbox. It appears there is more in this data harvesting for Toyota to obtain feedback, and possibly law enforcement, than something useful to the driver excepting the case of a serious accident where no one else functional was around and you couldn't use your cell phone but still had a finger to reach the SOS button. I guess I have 9 more days to weigh this.

I reread the label.

Quote: to disable press vehicle SOS button

Costs are involved for this too.

This is the only nanny feature on this vehicle that gives me the heebeejeebies.

The clock is ticking, but I think I should opt out with the press of a button.

Quickdtoo. have you received any billing or contact related to this since you haven't pressed the button???
