Lucky that I am in no hurry. Buying “sight unseen” and untested, plus trying to negotiate price on a vehicle in high demand would be impossible for me to consider.

Changing the subject, if there is no engine or transmission braking when one takes the foot off the throttle, what happens on a long, steep mountain grade? I have driven a Prius for many miles in the past, but never in the mountains, and I don’t remember what is available. Is there a manual setting on the RAVH gear selector to engage engine braking? Would hope so.

I can't speak for Canadian dealers. You would have to ask.

I absolutely agree that I don't have a guarantee on best price and will be doing a lot more homework over the next few weeks. But at least I know that there is one coming in configured as my wife and I like and that no one else can buy unless I cancel.

Right now all of the action seems to be in Portland, Oregon which is a port city for Toyota and where several dealers have gotten a few hybrids in and a couple of dealers have posted moderate discounts. We don't live there but will be visiting family there next week and hope to test drive one if they are not sold already. None have arrived here in Colorado.

Found this link about getting a deposit back here in Ontario in case anyone else was wondering,

Since there is no provision for a "cooling off" period in Ontario's law, if the dealer agrees to cancel a vehicle purchase agreement, they are entitled to claim "liquidated damages" and retain a part – or all – of your deposit.

Hmm, Will I have to pay full price?

Folks,

I am glad I started this thread. Thank you all for your comments.

For all of those people that are commenting from Canada. I thought Toyota was upgrading a plant in Canada? Isn't that why you are seeing them first?

Did I hear correctly? All 19 delivered to one dealer are sold already?

Mine is due in Mid May coming into Littleton, Massachusetts. Is that the second group? It was my understanding that the XSEs are first.

I am getting the impression, from these comments, that I will have to pay full price.

Regards,
Jim

Carguru.com shows only 57 XSEs nationwide US, with a total of 518 HVs, this would include incoming vehicles shown on dealer websites I would suspect.

I have communicated with 2 AutoNation stores, both offer a discount by email after you click on their "internet price". The discounts are not huge but worth bringing to your dealer to get them to match it. Their discounts on the non hybrids are very good, below invoice. My local Toyota dealer is matching the AutoNation price on the hybrid that I have put a deposit on.

The few dealers I've spoken to in my area (north Toronto) I'm told that the few that have been ordered are only just beginning build. Delivery will be mid to late April. They're being built nearby in Woodstock and there are none here yet.

I'm waiting on ordering since I still have questions. First I ask about remote start and am told it's available. Only on questioning am I told it's 'after factory' install. I asked about the XSE seats having the fabric inserts, nope he tells me. He shows me the brochure which states "unique mixed softex & leather seat surfaces" ..not at all what I see on the build it site. My gut tells me to sit back and wait...

Dunno if I trust him Jackie. The reviews of the XSE all show fabric seating surfaces with blue stitching and SofTex surrounds if I’m seeing it right.

Here's a video of the XSE at the Toronto Intl Auto Show, clearly shows the XSE seats being the same as US and Europe.
