Are dealers stuck with Hybrids?

Hi,

Has anyone heard that dealers are getting stuck with hybrids?

This seems to be related to gas prices. When they are low then dealers can't move the hybrids. Is that the case as they 2019 RAV4 Hybrids start to arrive?

I will be start the negotiation for mine next month and was wondering about this topic.

Regards,
Jim

Survey of three regional Toyota dealers here including one in an area of high gas prices reveals only one available 2019 new Toyota RAV4 hybrid , trim XSE, MSRP $37,699, with an indication that the dealer might be open to at least some negotiation.

Garage
Nope, there have been several sold here within a day of arrival from port, they're on the dealer website one day, then they aren't a day later. Look at '18 HV sales, I checked 2 weeks ago within 200 miles of me, there were 2 HVs still on dealer sites, and locally there haven't been any since late Dec/early Jan.

gas prices are going to go up. The supply is down and summer is coming. So go get your hybrid when you can.

The first load to my nearest dealership is already all sold, I'm on the load after that. Seems like they can't keep them here.

Waiting

I work at a dealer (not in sales) and we have no issues moving every one we can get in.
1st batch of 19's are spoken for sight unseen or tested.
Toyota is gonna sell a ton of these. I think more than their expected 25% of RAV4 production.

I'm so tempted to run over to the dealership and order one but wonder, how can you order a vehicle without having seen it OR having test driven it. Is that what others are doing?

Deposits are refundable, so you can reserve your place in line without risk.

Of course, you can test drive a gas version. Differences will be in acceleration, possibly engine noise, braking feel. I drive a Prius and expect some driving characteristics to be similar to that. One thing that I like is that when you take your foot off the accelerator, the vehicle will coast a long way because there is no engine or transmission braking, only light regenerative braking until you put your foot on the brake pedal.

Off road performance may also be different but that would be hard to evaluate on a test drive.

I do have a deposit on one and expect to be able to test drive one before mine comes in. Could cancel then but don't expect to.

Actually, the better title for this thread would be "Are the dealers stuck with non hybrids?" A local dealer has 140 listed (some of which are "in transit"). They are giving much bigger discounts on the non hybrids which makes choosing even more difficult.

My dealer has agreed to consider matching any other offers that I come up with and that I am free to cancel for any reason including if he doesn't match.

Is that the case no matter where you are? Here in Ontario we have OMVIC and I wondered, if you give a deposit are you obligated to buy from that dealership regardless? Your dealer has agreed to consider other offers isn't really a guarantee you're getting the best price.
