Dash cam mirror tap

Figured out how to hardwire dash cam with a mirror tap. Slide the big black cover behind the mirror downwards. Pop open the small mirror mount cover on the big black cover. Set both aside. Stick the two mirror tap needles in the far right connector. Tap into the white wires. Red wire is constant power and white wires seem to be ignition switched. Check engine light might go off for some reason (but cycled off after a few drives - maybe the dealer forgot to click the gas cap after filling it up?).

Edit: maybe more appropriate for the interior forums. For reference I have the limited with pano, tech, and weather in case those options change the number of connectors behind that mirror cover.

I’ll upload pics in a bit. Totally forgot to take pics.

Camera is cheap aukey one from amazon. It’s the square one with a suction mount. $55 or so. I bought 3 of them so far for all family cars. Mirror tap is from invisicord but there are many around - mirrortap or amazon are other options. Make sure to get thinnest possible taps.

I use the super cheap Yi cam also. We tested it out on my car and it works “fine”. It’s not crazy featured or anything but it does the job and for 50 bucks you can’t go wrong.

This is great! So instead of having to run a long power cable around the windshield and plug it into the 12V plug, you can tap into the power for the center mirror? Would it affect the performance/operation of the rearview digital display? Definitely looking forward to some pictures showing how the connection is done.

You should not have any ill operational issue tapping power from there.
