crucial information, I need information LSD

This is a wild one.

I've been looking for a LSD for my FWD RAV4.1. In the AWD RAV4.1 comes with (as seen in the RAV4.1 1997 Repair Manual Pages MX-14 + MX-15) just two different parts. The Differential Case Assembly for 5 speed and the Differential Side Gear Intermediante Shaft. If I install these two parts which come in the AWD transaxle. In my 5 speed 2WD, will it work? Or will I need the Transfer case. This is a long short but there is goes.

Hey Mensa,

Don't know if you are confusing the optional rear LSD in AWD models ?

https://www.rav4world.com/forums/83-...-have-lsd.html

For FWD, don't know if anything would work from a Celica or MR2, or what would be involved, or if it would even be worth the time and cost?

A quick online search showed there is a company called Phantom Grip that lists this:

https://phantomgrip.com/shop/toyota-...fe-engine-fwd/

You could try contacting them to see if it would work in the FWD RAV4 or not.
Maybe some others on the forums might have heard of other possibilities or options.

Good luck.
Let us know if you find anything out.

First, I always knew that you are in the background of this forum, cool to see that. We are from the old school RAV4world since Kelly. My RAV4 is still running excellent, and then some.

Regarding the parts. No, I didn't confuse (of all people in this forum I think I should know) But I did some searching last night after I posted and the so called LSD from the RAV4 AWD is just a large shaft that going from the FWD differential to the Transfer Assembly. The only way to use this shaft if I installed AWD. Running Rallies here would change my category, and I'm good in the Mini 2WD bracket. and not the 4WD where all the Suzuki 4WD V6 are. Now you know why I want a V6. But what the hell the only advantage they have is in the mud. But on the road, they are OUT, I always drive (or race) by them.

Regarding the Phantom Grip, yes, I also saw that last night. My only question there is reliability. Popping that clutch in the mud at 6,000RPM will put a load on that part, imagine on the road. I'll keep trying. Never the less, The Phantom is a not that easy. Posi is cool, especially when I saw

I think we might have a winner.

After looking at Phantomgrip website, I think we might have a winner. Let me check that Celica 3SFE engine transaxle numbers.

I have little interest in fitting an lsd...at the rear or the front ... but I admire your tenacity for these mods.

out of interest i clicked on that Phantomgrip link ... and was surprised to see a couple of bits of steel .... that I have seen before.

check the pics.... I saw that 'limited slip adaptor' yesterday whilst searching on Lazada ( Philippine Alibaba) for something else..and those 'bits of metal' had me curious. My point is .... try having a look on Alibaba... or AliExpress ..or any of the Chinese places. Someone in China is clearly making these adaptors ..and you may find something suitable ...for very little money. That Honda adaptor ..is less than 1000php ..thats like US$20!!

I am a little sceptical that a couple of bits of steel like that can transform an open diff into a lsd... but perhaps that is exactly what they do. Im also not suggesting it will be reliable....or even work at all ... I have no idea ... but for that kind of money...it is maybe worth a punt..Screenshot_20190112-094553_Lazada_1547259043900.jpg

I've emailed the company, no answer yet.
