1994 Skid Plate

Hello all.

This is the last little project I had in mind and it is now finished. A skid plate.

I used a 3mm thick aluminium sheet (I dont know what grade and any other specification) and I bolted on the holes for the original plastic protection cover, except for one hole that I had to drill.

First I did a cardboard template to measure the size and also where to drill the holes on the plate. I also used a piece of rubber (heat pump bushing) just to keep the plate from touching the crossmember.

Then I cut the sheet to size using a grinder, and the fun part was to bend it. I cut a shallow fracture line where I wanted to bend, then I screwed down the sheet on the floor of my work van (think as a bench) to stop from moving up, then I start to bend it. It was really hard, I had to literally jump up and down on the edge of the sheet to make it bend. Was funny...

The other sides were easier to bend, just using a little wrench and a rubber hammer.

I bolted everything up using m6 bolts (I think) on six spots, so I think will be strong enough. The crossmember on the left was the only point I had to drill as there was nowhere else I could bolt into.

I will post a drawing with measuraments and take a better pic of the plate on the car.

Love this. I've wanted to do this for awhile, glad to see someone else making it happen! Looking forward to final install pics.

Unfortunately I can't put on a hoist and my pics from the car on the ground never come out great.
Anyway, I've got three more pics... Not too shabby, I liked the result.
