Tire pressure sensor 2008 limited

My TPS light came on blinking then solid then a few minutes later went out.Shortley after it came on blinking then steady.Checked all 5 tires and pressure was good.I understand the sensors have batteries in them and may only last about 10 years or less.If one of the sensors is bad or one has a bad battery, how do you know which one it is?Can a shop replace the battery or would I need a whole sensor?thanks

If one sensor has gone bad is likely that the rest soon will follow, so it probably is best to have them all replaced at the same time. The sensor and battery basically are one unit so it generally is not possible to replace only the battery, but it has been reported that some owners have managed to do so.

As Jim said you have to replace the sensors. Discount Tire did ours last year when buying tires. The five sensors were $300 which included programming them to the car. You might have to rebalance all in addition.

Well, I replaced a sensor 2/3 years ago on my 2008 model. Only one wore out and got replaced. The other four (including the one on the spare) have been chugging along fine so far.

The battery is integrated into the sensor and is not separately replaceable - gotta replace the whole sensor.

In my case, I took it to a local costco, and they identified and replaced the dead sensor at the cost of part, about 40-50 bucks I think, because the car had set of tires purchased there.

Good price. I was quoted 100 bucks a piece. I said I'll wait.

Shop around. I considered these things a pain in the arse until it alerted me one day. I checked all tires and sure enough one had a nail in it. As radials do it didn't even look low but had 20 lbs of air in it. I was just about to drive about 60 highway miles so it saved me from what could have been a real mess......it was a front tire.

Just guessing but since the batteries are on their last legs they (or one) might be sending an intermittent signal to the TPMS receiver.

As RTF suggested the sensors probably are sending intermittent signals to the TPMS receiver as the batteries apparently are failing. It is possible that when the sensor batteries have warmed somewhat they may recover sufficiently (batteries generally do better warm than when cold) to send the required signal, but it still is likely that TPMS sensor replacement is needed. RTF's sensor replacement and programming cost at $300 is what was charged to replace the sensors on my wife's car. Other estimates were higher.
