Auto Lights

This has some definite potential. I googled DEI 545T and also found alternatives to ebay but the buy-it-now sellers seem to offer a slight price edge.

Looks like the install was pretty straight forward w/o any aftermarket look to it. But as one poster said I'll bookmark this for a Spring project - November is upon us!

Amazon is cheaper, and has free shipping: http://www.amazon.com/Directed-Elect.../dp/B000CJ24YY

I'm assuming I'd have to do the "procedure" to disable the DRL and install this to have complete automatic control, i.e. this until can't disable my existing DRL for me?

We had a little snow today.

If I disable my DRL lights, and I turn on the wipers to clear a little drizzle (2 swipes, then turn off), drivers coming towards me will wonder why I flashed my lights at them.

Rick,

I guess I'm not sure what you mean. I didn't probe long enough to find a current tied directly into the continuous on wipers. The two I probed turned the voltate off and on to run the intermittent wipers. Since I didn't think I needed them anyway I didn't take the time to figure it out. If your RAV4 already has DRL or you didn't want that feature then you would want to cut the red wire inside the control box of the DEI 545T.

Good find - I'm buyin ... it'll have to sit on the shelf with a few other projects until spring ... unless I get really really motivated!

I ordered one from amazon (free shipping) they said about 2 weeks for the free shipping, oh well. A couple of questions though.
1. How does it act with the two click off with the remote?
I would assume you don't use that ?

2. Does the light on indicator in the dash panel still light up ?

TBD1,

The DEI 545T turns the lights off when the ignition is turned off. So the lights would already be off when you double click the remote. You would only need the two clicks from the remote if you left the manual switch on.

The light on indicator still lights up when the DEI 545T turns the lights on.

Basically all the DEI 545T does is energize the wires that go through the multi-function light switch when it is dark so the car thinks you turned the multi-function light switch on. When the ignition turns off, the wires to the multi-function light switch are de-energized and car thinks you turned the switch off. I have been driving around in it Sunday after I installed it and yesterday and it has been working great so far.

Thanks, that eases all my questions. That was the one thing I had to get used too on the RAV, was turning lights on again manually, as I hadn't turned one on in about 20 years. I still find myself forgetting some times (after almost a year) and this will take care of that.
