Added Auto On/OFF Headlights

For anyone who's interested. I found an automatic headlight kit that works real well on the RAV4. It's DEI 545T. Just splice 5 wires, hook up 3 grounds and mount your light sensor on the right dash hole and the on/off switch on the side of the column and your set. The kit cost about $45 online and the scotch-lock connectors about $1.50 and zip ties about $1.50 and your set. I tried it out today and tonight and it worked great. Took me about 2 hours to install but now that I know how to do it, it should have taken me about 45 minutes.

I'd love to hook this up. Do you have a website to go to? Also if you could post some pics of the install, that would be great.

I bought it on ebay. Just do a search on EBAY Stores for DEI 545T. I took some pictures and can show/tell you exactly which wires to tap into so you won't have to probe around yourself. I will try and create an album tomorrow and post them.

I posted three pictures in my album of the underneath of the steering wheel column. You have to remove the lower plastic cover and the lower steering wheel plastic cover. The kit has daytime running lights also but my RAV4 already had them so I cut the red wire inside the DEI 545T control box to turn off that feature since I already had them. It also offers the headlights coming on when ever the windshield wipers are turned on. I didn't hook that up since I thought OEM daytime running lights were good enough. I can post alot better instructions if anyone needs them later. It wasn't that hard to hook up though. The hardest part was removing the plastic cover in the dash to place the light sensor in.

jaos07,

No, it won't. You can disable the DEI 545T's daytime running light feature if your RAV4 already has it. The DEI 545T's sensor turns the lights off (when it is dark out) when the ignition is turned off so it doesn't affect the factory auto off feature. There is also a switch that comes with it that will shut the auto feature off when you don't want to use it or want to manually control it. I'll try and take more pictures later. After testing it out yesterday it worked real well without any problems.
