2006 Rav4 Reverse Camera Location

I want to install a reverse camera in my 2006 Limited V6 to connect to my new Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX. I am trying to decide where to place the camera. It seems the normal spot is above the license plate, off to the left. This raises a few questions for me though.
  1. Does it being off to the left annoy the driver when backing up?
  2. Is there a glare from the license plate light? Is it a problem?
  3. If I get a 170 degree angle camera, will the spare tire on the back of the door block my vision on that side?

Another option is to cut a hole in the bumper under the spare tire. The guy in this video did it to his 2007 model. The bumper is slightly different though. I am just wondering what other people have done and if anyone has some ideas.

Thanks.

I've seen a few threads about this issue. I'm happy with the location of my camera under the spare. It's very close to center and somewhat shielded from weather. Mine is stuck on with 3M adhesive--almost two years now and it hasn't budged.

I assume you drilled a hole for the cable. Did the fiberglass bumper hold up ok? I think you added a photo (at least it shows the link in my email notification) but for some reason it doesn't show in the thread. Can you post it again?

I see the photo in my feed, so I don't know why you can't. You can click on my user name and then look at the photos I have uploaded under my profile.

No, I did not drill a hole. I ran the cable under the door panel to the passenger side and to the interior via the rubber grommet into the jack storage compartment. At least that's what I remember from almost 2 years ago! lol I am sure about running the cable under the rear door and around the hinges.

Ok so I was able to see them in your profile album. I am amazed that the camera has not come off with just 3M adhesive tape. Even with the continuous shutting of the door over 2 years? I guess snow is not an issue for you in Texas. I am in Montreal, and there is no way that would last. And you have not had any problems with those wires loose like that? I would think they would get crimped by the closing of the door.

DavidR, you may want to look at one of those rear camera integrated in the license plate light. Much cleaner install with no holes to drill and screw up. This is how the factory ones like mine is located.

What is the viewing angle on those? Does the spare tire get in the line of vision? Does the glare from the light interferes?

The angle is in the listings. Spare doesn't show up on screen.
