Windshield Heat Enhanced?

Windshield Heat Enhanced? Yah sure I'm a Minnesotan & have been driving this RAV4 for years but being a skeptic I never used the windshield heat button before. Whada mistake! It warms quickly and just blasts! I kid you not, it heats faster than the other options on the dash. Is it electrically enhanced?

The 3 O'clock position on far left knob.

LOL...that is just the defroster position and it heats no faster heating than any other position. It blasts because it directs full blower to the defroster position.

In 2012, Toyota added a PTC electric heater to the HVAC system in the RAV4, but only on the 4-cylinder models. As far as I know, your 2011 doesn't have it.

Thanks for that, James. I hope this info benefits those who do have it.

James, can you please expand on this? Forgive my ignorance but I’ve never come across the acronym PTC before. Do you mean the embedded heater elements in the windshield? I ask as I have a 2012 2.5 base and thought I knew its features well by now. Thanks!

I believe that button also activates the side mirrors defrost function.

Yes, you will find this statement in the 2012 New Features document:

The PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) heater system uses a PTC element to warm the air that passes through the heater core to ensure the proper heater performance.

^^ We call it, "the defrost button" bubba....been around after auto AC, was invented.
- when one gets freezing rain overnight / its the best feature, on the vehicle @ startup
- embedded heater elements in lower portion of windshield is a nice option, keeps wiper blades from icing up

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defogger
For primary defogging, heat is generally provided by the vehicle's engine coolant via the heater core; fresh air is blown through the heater core and then ducted to and distributed over the interior surface of the windshield by a blower. This air is in many cases first dehumidified by passing it through the vehicle's operating air conditioning evaporator. Such dehumidification makes the defogger more effective and faster, for the dried air has a greater capacity to absorb water from the glass at which it is directed.
