better sounding I4 exhaust suggestions

Iím looking for assistance in choosing parts for a better sounding exhaust on my 2011 4banger. Iíve looked around and saw one member achieving a Subaru like tune. However a Subaru burble is not what Iím looking for (nor a Honda buzz). I wish for a more throaty like purr audible but I do not know what specific mufflers or pipes I should seek to achieve these results. If anyone can give me some advice on getting my specific preferences or offer some recordings of their own aftermarket exhaust sounds, Iíd be very grateful.

You need to check Youtube to hear the different mufflers since that is what you are basing it on. There ares not many made to fit mufflers for this car so most of them will be universal mufflers.

Cut the exhaust right before the finial tip resonator (remove). It will give you a little more throat.

Hard to get a good purr out of a 2.5 i4

Most of the exhaust sound mods on 4 cyl. cars here remind me as having been a farm kid of the sound of sick cows, or are so loud as to be offensive. Purr sound is more reminiscent of the days of V8s and now to a certain degree of V6s. Good luck with your search.

You'd probably have to get a cat-back system installed with a resonator and chambered muffler. See if there's any hot rod shops around you that do custom exhaust, if you get lucky they may actually know some deeper science behind exhaust notes and can help in determining ideal components.

The easiest/cheapest option is swapping out just the muffler (I've always liked Borla) and deleting the stock resonator(s) to see if that creams your twinkie.

A ZX2 S/R I had back in the day came with a Borla muffler from the factory. It was deep under WOT but never loud or raspy. They only got loud if the cats were removed which is the case with all cars.

Thank you for all the suggestions😁. I was very doubtful of getting the v8ish y-pipe sound out of my i4 rav( for obvious reasons &#x1f636 and don’t have any exhaust specialists in my area. I’ll be settling for just a more aggressive tone. Will keep you all updated on how she turns out.

A note about the 50-series Flowmaster: although the sound characteristics of the 2.5 are very different than my old Mustang 5.0, there was a horrendous droning sound on the highway. At the time, more owners liked the 70 series if they drove any distance on the highway. YMMV but beware of this. Gotta say, I still miss that roar from my 5.0

I do have my music loud on highways, but do you advise against just the 50 series or the general audible range the 50 is in.
