I was looking for cooling system diagram for 2AR-FE. The document shows it. But there are many different components, like fittings, tubes, specifically around the transmission heater. It would be probably nice to have more expanded diagram.
My rav is 4.3 and motor 2AR.
Thank you

bigbird1. The doc starts from p19. It s interesting to see the rest. Anyway, thank you very much.

I extracted only the engine info, as that's the only thing that is relevant to the 4.4
The document goes into great detail on EVERYTHING about the 2009 RAV. It's a 168 page 11 MB pdf.
If you want the rest, I can always email it to you.

Thank you. PM has been sent.
Not really necessary. We have had that document available for download for several years:

2AR-FE (2.5L engine)

Doe anyone know if the 2AR-FE (2.5L engine) in 2013 Rav4 is the same engine that other owners is having problems with the engine consuming too much oil thus the engine is failing after 70K plus miles?

Since 2009 the 2AR-FE has been updated with changes to eliminate the oil burning issue. Not to worry.

No, that is the 2AZ-FE (2.4L) engine that was in the 2004-2008 RAV4.

Any idea when will we see the '13 "What's New" document?
If not, where did you get the prior years' documents?
I bought a 2-day subscription to Toyota's TIS site and downloaded a lot of documents from there.

Do these chains need to be replaced at some point or the tensioners?
Normally, with proper oil change intervals, the chain and tensioner will last the life of the engine. Toyota engines are noted for a lack of valve train problems. Toyota four cylinder issues were with the previous generation 2.4L engines, which suffered mainly from excessive oil consumption and sludge due to piston and piston ring problems. The V6 issues are another kettle of fish. They had and still have issues with the 5 speed trans and water pump.

Another reason Toyota finally switched to full synthetic engine oil.

Old Timer

I still don't like 0W-20, but I'll use it. I had a tough enough time going from 10W-30 to 5W-30 back in the day.
You must be an old timer. Me too, but I just accept the new technology, much better materials and the greatly lessened work it brings.

My wife and I are still trying to figure out if we like the 'push start' RAV4. This is the first car we've had with it, and some of the things seem unnecessary. Like when I got my first TV with a remote control, and thought it was unnecessary. Now I wouldn't buy a TV without the remote.

I'm definitely an "older timer".
The new technology is great, but I often wonder why the need for superthin oils. If they're being used just to satisfy CAFE economy ratings and to coax the last bit of fuel economy out of an engine, then that's not in the best interest of engine longevity. I'd like to ask an engineer from any automotive manufacturer their off the record opinion on the need for superthin engine oils.

Regarding the smart key technology, I had it on my '11 LTD RAV, and I do not miss it at all on my XLE. Murphy's Law is the reason. Just more expensive stuff to go wrong once the vehicle is out of warranty.
