Hi all,

Ive had my ACA23R for ~2 months now.
Everything is great except for one thing... the clutch is very hard to use.
Ive driven manual cars all my life, but i cannot get use to the clutch in this RAV4... its just "unnatural".

The pedal is quite long with the bite point being near the top (released) end.
3/4 of the pedal travel doesnt do anything.

Has anyone had this problem?
Has anyone attempted to adjust the clutch to fix this problem?

Thanks.

I don't know about your specific case but from my 50 years experience of driving manual shift cars it sure sounds like an adjustment issue.

My '01 RAV4 is exactly the same, you don't have to press the clutch-pedal down all the way to get it to shift, but maybe that's because the clutch is on its way out (I think).

Anyway, I'd love to learn more about the weird pedal!

Good point.
MWP, you might want to try my clutch life test. Drive in high gear about 60 mph (100 kph). Floor the accelerator. Momentarily hit and release the clutch pedal to make the clutch slip and the engine rev up. If the clutch is good the revs will go back down as soon as you release the clutch pedal. If not the clutch either needs replacement or will soon.

The clutch appears to be in great shape.
Ive had a learner driver in it, she spun the tires taking off in 1st gear a couple of times by mistake :)

Ill give the adjustment a go.

Ill report back later, thanks guys :)

Good tip! Too bad I've had it happen that I'd be in 2nd gear, accelerating, shift to 3rd & the revs would just stay up for a few seconds, very rarely happened (maybe 5 timeds in the last year), but still, I'll try that out one day!

Just found this:
"... the clutch pedal was working (engaging) really high, almost at the very top ... I just thought it was something specific to RAV4 and got used to that.
Now the clutch pedal is much much softer and the engagement point is somewhere in the middle." in this thread: http://www.rav4world.com/forums/88-4-2-faults-fixes/72816-slipping-clutch.html (see post #10); might have nothing to do with it, but 2 of the things I'm experiencing seem to have been fixed there.

Yes. I have a 2011 Rav 4 manual petrol.I have the same problem.all my other cars all manuals ( and I've had a few) the clutch takes approx 25 to 30 mm from the floor. This takes right at top and it's very hard when depressing it. Spoke to Riaan the workshop manager at Hermanus Toyota and he said the clutch is on its way out. I have done 126 000 km He basically said the fingers on the pressure plate are warn.????? Does that make sense to you car boffs out there. Dave Smith
