My RAV4 LE does not have power lift gate. Now I found the power lift gate is a must have feature. But I cannot find a after market kits with reasonable price. Is there anyone knows where to buy it?

I agree with Robert that it is integrated on the keyless fob. My only gripe on this factory lift gate is the left side needs to be replaced (under warranty) since it is making weird grunting (sp?) noises. Other than that I love this feature.

I bought the RAV4 4 months ago. I'm going to keep it for 3 years. Next time I'll still buy RAV4 and will buy Limited. 4 months ago, I had money in hand and went to Buick dealer to buy encore. But in halfway, with unknown reason, somehow I walked into Toyota dealer and bought Rav4 LE. After 4 months driving, I like it. The only mistake was LE. I should buy Limited.

You can also get the power liftgate on the XLE now as an option. I also thing the XLE gives you the most value for your money.

Opening is really not the issue, closing is. It takes two hands to push it down and if you got your hands full it's a real inconvenience. I really notice it now with all this rain, you just can't put stuff on the ground to free your hands to close it.

On my XLE when you push the button you have a few pound pull to pull it loose from the seals then it opens by itself. A power lift gate would be nice but just one more thing that could go wrong.

Sorry -- but reading this thread and had to post. I absolutely love (in this kind of a way >:D ) the "one more thing that could break" line of thinking. Power steering? One more thing to go wrong... ABS? One more thing to go wrong... Radio? Airbags? (OK, well, airbags....fine).

But seriously... you could say any new (or old) feature of a new vehicle is just one more thing to go wrong. That's what a warranty is for. In reality, if your fear is that you plan to keep your RAV4 for 20 years, you really can't forecast the future. To omit a piece of technology that has been around for (has it yet been) a decade because "it may break" is really kinda silly when you think about it. Sure, if Toyota were the innovator of something and this was the experimental, first-run of said technology then some hesitation would be understandable. But to me, that should NOT apply to some of the more tried and true things like the power liftgate... If Toyota had a bad reputation for quality, then maybe the line of thinking would work. But this is Toyota...

Staying on topic: My reply to the OP would be that it's probably better to trade in on one w/that feature if you're adamant about it. It looks like you're not... at least not enough to trade in...

I took the opposite buying approach and OVERPURCHASED on features that I figured we'd maybe want. The only real thing we were after was heated, leather seats.... but we got a Limited w/Navi and JBL, blind spot monitors, cross-traffic alert, power liftgate, smartkey... and my wife loves all of the features. So now I've created a monster. One that is looking at 3-row crossovers 10K more than what the RAV cost... lol

The early 2nd gen Highlanders had a big problem with those mechanisms; the hinges weren't strong enough and after prolonged use the rear door would actually become misaligned and wouldn't close/operate correctly. Toyota actually replaced the entire door and mechanism on the vehicles that were brought in under warranty.

Beefed up the hinges on later models and that seemed to cure the problem. Hope it doesn't plague the RAV's with that option.

Careful what you wish for. ;-)

Hi czGu, from a different topic about the Hood shake/vibration, I learned there are struts/dampers with different pressure (lifting power), you may want to investigate about that possibility before its time to trade-in for an XLE or Limited. Good luck!

Finally I found 2013-2015 RAV4 power liftgate kit.

Features:

1. Remote controll with RAV4 original key
2. Push buttons in front and on liftgate to open and close liftgate.
3. Open position adjustable. Can stop at any position when the door opening or closing.
4. Can manually open the liftgate.
5. Anti-pinch protection sensors.
6. Anti-theft feature
7. Driving protection
8. Beeping signal
9. (Option) Open and/or close liftgate by scanning foot.

This looks similar to the arrangement on my son's Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. A thick motorized strut on the driver's side that has the mechanism, and a regular strut on the passenger side. Doesn't the factory RAV4 power liftgate have a motorized strut on both sides? Seems like they would have to work in sync.

1. No, I have not bought. a). Price is too high. b). It's from China (Taobao.com). I'll have business trip to China in October. So I still have time to search.
2. Installation requires removing lift gate panel. I think it's not difficult to do. Time is not problem to me. hours, days ....
3. Don't know yet.

If it's anything like what I had on my '12 Highlander SE then the answer is no, there is only one motorized strut and it's on the drivers side.

That is one heavy hatch too! My struts blew and the motor couldn't lift it, nor could I for that matter!

I've finished power lift gate installation. That installation package cost me $550. I toke back from China by myself. Installation was not difficult. But I had some wiring problems. The color of some wires were not same. I think the colors in installation instruction are for China version of RAV4. US version has different colors. I had to try one by one to find out the correct wires.

After installation, I did some test: Front button to open the back door (that bottom cannot close the door). One button installed on the back door can close the door, but cannot open it. Key unlock can remote open and close the door. I have tested adjusting highs of door opening. It works fine. Manually open the lift gate has no problem. Also anti-pinch protection and driving protection work fine.

I've fixed front push button can open but cannot close door problem. The installation instruction says 2 wires from front push button connects to rear door switch. But didn't say which wire connect to which on the door switch. If connected wrong, then the button can only open door, but not close it.

My question is have you installed it yet - how much time did it take - and does it work well? Maybe that was 3 questions.
Now I can answer your questions. I've installed. It toke my whole weekend, about 7 hours. Most time I was searching website and contacting the company for answers. It works very good. I can remote open and close door using original key. I can adjust height. It can stop at any position when it's opening or closing. Also it has anti pinch function.
