Has anyone successfully procured a convertible top in the last two years? I am disappointed to find out its easier to find a Convertible top and performance cam for a Geo metro then a much newer RAV౺.
You can pick up OEM replacements on places like VillageToyota, they go in and out of stock.Has anyone successfully procured a convertible top in the last two years? I am disappointed to find out its easier to find a Convertible top and performance cam for a Geo metro then a much newer RAV౺.
That is a good version, although I am partial to the ATCQ original.I have been told three different things. My local dealer there is no way to get them .. Then another dealer who list them on their internet website tells me they are all out of stock but if you really want its $8300 for windows and everything.. And then I call another dealer who list on the internet he tells me they have to order from Japan and they still can be procured.. I am still waiting for that exact quote.. I will call Village and hopefully someone their knows how to make it happen.
One more thing love the name.. I just rediscovered that song a year ago.. Fat boy slim mix.. its cool...
Good idea and brings up the issue of material quality. Marine shops carry some pretty heavy duty materials which are great if you have to redo the entire top. Expensive, though you get what you pay for. I'm having mine done at an auto upholstery shop as I write this: replace the windows with a dark tint plastic, replace the velcro, and some minor re-stitching on the top itself. I'm hoping the zippers are still good, but they may get replaced, too. The hardware and plastic trim are still good. I'm also having a repair done to the driver's side front seat and the stuffing replaced. Cost for the top is estimated at US$450, total estimated cost US$550. I figure if they do it for 650 or less, it's a good deal. I'll post before and after pics when it's done if anyone's interested.Be sure to check marine shops as well, they work on funky stuff all the time.
Yes! I'll see how well they do it.......Good idea and brings up the issue of material quality. Marine shops carry some pretty heavy duty materials which are great if you have to redo the entire top. Here's a not-so-great before shot of the back window: faded, two cuts in it, road grime build-up that's baked in. If you look at the right corner you can see the velcro isn't holding as well as I'd like. The top doesn't leak, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this restoration doesn't cause bigger problems! I'm going to check on the progress at the shop later today or tomorrow.Yes! I'll see how well they do it.......
Here's the "after" shot. All three windows were done, the velcro was replaced, and some minor repairs were done, mostly restitching. The vinyl top itself was in good condition, so they just used some conditioner inside and out. It looks like new for $650.00 (which included repairing a burn hole in and re-stuffing the front seat). I paid a little extra for the dark plastic windows. The photo doesn't really do it justice. I can post more but suffice to say I'm very happy with the result. Only those who know would know it's been redone. Here's a not-so-great before shot of the back window: faded, two cuts in it, road grime build-up that's baked in. No, the windows have to come off. If the velcro needs replacing, or if there's any other issues, the top has to come off, too. There's a two-piece seal on the front that's subject to wear and may need to be replaced (I think it's #7 on the attached diagram - mine was ok). My zippers were ok, but they can be replaced. Here's some side window pics and a profile shot. Be sure to enlarge the pics if you want to see the detail. The improvement in looks and visibility made it well worth the expense.can the back window be done while its attached? Unable to unzip... How about a side window shot too? please :>)
Post a pic here when it's done!man that looks nice.. my new window should be here in a week or two.. i just hope i can cant take off old one without anymore damage to the top...
The time's never right :wink but it's that or the aftermarket hard top you mentioned. I saw one awhile back. If we're talking about the same one, I thought it looked weird squared off at the back, but I liked that the rear window flipped up making it easier to get stuff in and out. Zippering the soft top to remove the back window is unpleasant!Looking good @ skwerl406.........When the time is right I'll definitely do mine.
