The time's never right :wink but it's that or the aftermarket hard top you mentioned. I saw one awhile back. If we're talking about the same one, I thought it looked weird squared off at the back, but I liked that the rear window flipped up making it easier to get stuff in and out. Zippering the soft top to remove the back window is unpleasant!
Ha ha. I meant when finances allow. BTW, mine is not badly off. The only concern I have is accessing a replacement at REASONABLE rates if/when it wears out. Yeah, I think we are talking about the same hardtop...........Geo Tracker Hardtops from Rally Tops fiberglass sport truck top manufacturer. How could they not see how ugly it looks?....

Looks great!, I am getting my soft top refurbished at the local marine/camper-van specialist. its 1/4 the price of a new top!.

all you need now is some 10" Black Mesa vinyl cuts for the side doors ;), I am getting some my ML270 soon :D

Pics, please (of the soft top ;-)
This is it a while back, I have not started getting it refurbished just yet, need to save up the cash first.

Just in case someone is interested in a new Soft Top

I bought mine in Germany @650,-Euro incl Taxes. Of course it's not Vinyl but similar to any modern soft top material like Volkswagen or others.

We have another source which is offering mostly Mercedes aftermarket replacement soft tops, and they ask 950,-Euro for it. But doesn't seem to be any different from what I have found. So...

You can check at www / verdeckshop / de

I'm sure they can figure out a way to ship to the US.

Mine will get installed in August, when I'm back at my vacation place where the car is located ;-)

I'm new here to the forum but have a '98 soft top so some experience with the top. I just sprung for a new hard-soft top from rallytops.com. They make them one by one in Los Angeles and they do a decent job. It's $795 plus tax plus shipping. I'm near San Diego so I drove up and avoided the shipping charge. They said if I'd pay cash they'd install it for free-- normally only about $50 but I liked it anyway. If you do decide to go Rally Top tell Jerry that Bob sent you-- you won't get any special deal and I won't get a kickback but he's a nice guy and I'd like to see him get some business.

For those of you staying with the soft top I have my rather beat up soft top along with most of the arms and clamps and all the rest of that available and am selling it cheap. The only real reason I'm even bothering is that the parts are hard to find so I want to pass them on.

As far as soft tops are concerned I replaced my own plastic window "glass" myself several years ago and was happy with how it turned out. Basically I bought the "glass" from a company that fixes convertibles. I probably could have got it cheaper but they had it and claimed it's what they use on Mercedes convertibles. So it cost me $50 if I remember correctly. When it came time to attach it to the old top I went out and got a small rivet gun from Harbor Freight for about $15 and riveted the windows in place. As I said it all worked out pretty well and I liked it-- sort of a blue-jeans look. I wrote an e-book at the time and tried to sell it on eBay as a way to cheaply replace convertible windows but didn't get much interest. If you respond I can probably dig it up and send it to you (for free).

Anybody know of a soft top being parted out? Or see one at a pick-a-part or junkyard?

I'm having my '98 soft top painted and the paint shop while removing the convertible top managed to break the black plastic trim piece attached to the top of the rear (tailgate) door. I am on a quest to find the part. When I found it listed in Toyota Dealer diagrams it was clearly marked as No Longer Manufactured. So I must find a '98 or '99 which has been wrecked. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

i have a soft top rav in pieces in Ontario, Canada.. shipping is expensive though. as others have said i dont know of any replacement trim for these yet. there's certainly demand. i have found a replacement top.

unknown quality but looks great. we want to hear about it if anyone gets one.

if you're on facebook with a soft top rav how about joining the club? https://www.facebook.com/groups/1487700151341818/ trying to keep us together to share info and partouts. i've heard rumours that there may be hope in the future. lots of these things still driving spread all over the world. how are we going to tell them all when the wait is over? i'm keeping my trim pieces to 3d scan if needed. they're broken but that can be fixed on the computer.

next rav is gonna be clean, next one is gonna live.
