I think the Japan made model is better than Canadian based on my experience.

Me and a family member bought 2 Rav’s with the same trim and same everything on the same day. Both were purchased new.

Mine is a Japan model and the family members is Canadian.

Few differences I’ve noticed
1)The dash lights have a different color. Like the seatbelt or door is different. Japan is pure red while Canada is orange.

2)The center console armrest is much softer on the Canadian made versus Japan.

3)Different rear view mirror shape.

4)Canadian model chair squeaks when accelerating or braking and also sounds like a window is cracked open on the rear passenger window when in fact the window is completely shut. Japan model doesn’t have any of those issues asides from the leather part(it squeaks and sounds like plastic rubbing on plastic,I stopped it by sticking small little folded post it notes right under the radio and it fixed the issue.

5)Canadian mode has Continental tires from factory versus Japan which has Yokohama from factory.

6)The hood prop on the Canadian model has a little padding for holding versus Japan has nothing.

7)The tool bag is much more like a pouch on the Canadian model versus the Japan which is just a roll up bag.

8)The door lock sounds, sound different in each model when locking all doors.

9)Plastic on the Japan made seems a little more faded and not as dark versus Canadian which has more of a black plastic look.

10)When you close the doors, any of them it sounds different. Not sure which is “supposedly better”

I have a 2011 2 model (Canada), my parents have a 2015 J model. I have driven theirs a fair bit, and I really can't tell any discernible difference in build quality, paint quality (both are Barcelona Red), or mechanics (both have been absolutely trouble-free except for the usual wear items). The only difference is that their J model doesn't have DRLs, IIRC.

can i substitute the 89780-42181 japan built immobilizer with 89780-0R070 Canada built one on a 2013 le awd rav4?

Are they interchangeable ?

i found a parts website that shows both parts

My 2015 'J' model RAV XLE has DRL's; what model do they have?

The US 2015 ebrochure shows all US trims had DRLs, comparing Canadian and US models can be an apples and oranges comparison depending on what's being compared, and it doesn't make a difference where it was made, specs are for the destination country, TPMS is another example spec differences.

If you had your choice between 2 identical Rav4's, one made in Canada and the other made in Japan, which one would you pick? Are there any differences between them that isn't noticeable?

Thanks
I bought a 2018 RAV4 XLE awd last March. It was a 2T3BFREV4...which it was built here in the US/CAN. It was not my perfect car because I was looking for a JTMBFREV...but I couldn't find the perfect car at that time. It was kind of noisy while you are driving on the highways. So I drove it for a year now. Just yesterday I took it back to the dealer and traded it in for a 2017 RAV4 LE [JTMBFREV...] I am glad I've found the right SUV that I was looking for. I am going to miss the moon roof when summer comes because the LE models didn't equip with a moon roof. So my answer is: JTMB... [Japan].

In case anyone is still curious... I have a CA built 2010 rav4, 3.5 V6. I have a fuel tank that a previous owner bumped and now it does NOT hold the same amount of fuel as it should; AND it interferes with the gauge... I.E. dropped just below 3/4 tank and didn't notice the gauge had stopped working. Ran out of fuel, after realizing I had gone well over 400 + miles and thought WoW! I'm getting such great fuel mileage! This was on a first road trip moving between UT and AZ. Note to self... While I check to see if I can find a new tank... No. Apparently something is different between CA and Japan models, one is baffled, one is not, and the CA version is either higher priced and/or not available... Even R.A. doesn't have it; LILAND GLOBAL TRA02... Not sure why that baffle makes a difference in these models; but for brakes, and many other parts, NOT visually noticeable, there are differences... :( Just FYI. So far I have been fairly trouble free other than doing regular up keep, etc. Switched the rims to a bronze 18in stock size, using 235/55R 18 Michelin CrossClimate2 SL tires, (Red limited ). Handles great! Non stock stereo, and use Amsoil synthetics...
