I recently purchased a 2019 RAV4 XLE with power driver seat and tailgate. I am 6'1" tall and with the driver seat all the way down and the seatback inclined a decent amount my head is normally only a 1/2 inch from the top of the head liner, but in the mornings when my back has not compressed my head presses on the headliner uncomfortably. It is really hard for me to even get into the passanger manual seat, which does not lower at all. The dealer tells me they do not make a RAV4 now without a sun roof. My wife's CHR has more headroom than this new RAV4. The older versions of the RAV4 must of had more headroom to have sold 400K units a year. Aftermarket seats are out of the question due to the airbags in the seats. I really liked this RAV4 but I do not think I can live with the lack of head room.

I went back to the dealer a week after purchasing the 2019 XLE. They showed me some used 2018 RAV4s with 30k miles on them which had much more headroom, even with sun roofs. The 2018 RAV4 seats were better too. I offered the dealer $1,500 to take the 2019 RAV4 off my hands but they would not do it. I think Toyota really screwed up on this new RAV4. Even my wife’s Toyota C-HR has more headroom. I really regret purchasing this vehicle now.

It's less to do with the seats and more to do with the fact the 4.5 has both a higher ground clearance and an overall lower roofline than the previous gen. That means less vertical height inside the cabin. It doesn't help when Toyota didn't put in height controls on the passenger seat, let alone a power adjustable seat. I knoticed I will hit my head when entering on the passenger side unless I duck my head way down, and I'm only 5' 8".

I've already tested all of this out and for me personally I am fine with it, since I'm going to be doing most of the driving. But for the first time in my life, only being 5' 8", I was able to have my head touch the headliner when playing around with the power seats. Not even in my smaller cars was I ever able to do this.

I'm a little confused. Are you saying the power driver's seat is ok but the manual passenger seat is not? Or neither are ok, with the passenger seat being worse? I am also 6-1 and found the power driver's seat with moonroof to provide sufficient headroom. It's always the first thing I check in a new car. But I never checked the passenger seat. Nor did I check the manual driver's seat on the LE.

The passenger seat on ALL '19 Rav4s has no height adjustment and is on the high side, it is manual 4-way, fore and aft, seatback reclines. There are lots of reviews that make a point of pointing this out, the low sloping roof line and high passenger seat position can be a issue for many, I'm 5'11", it's not an issue for me, but I can see someone any taller having a problem with it, my hat/head barely clears the roof when I get in the passenger seat, my 5'9" wife never noticed it being a problem.

My wife and I both wacked our heads on the passenger side once or twice(LOL) but have learned from our mistakes! We're loving the XLE Premium so far...but I am kicking myself for not getting the JBL

My wife and I both found the passenger seat too high. Waiting to drive the Hybrid, but the lack of up/down adjustability and comfort in the passenger seat could just nix the purchase for us.

Wow, this is disappointing to read. I'm 6' 3", and just barely fit my '17 RAV (my hair touches the headliner on occasion). I've not had an opportunity to sit in a new one yet, but, if the height is really that low... I'll have to consider a different Toyota when I decide to trade this RAV in :(

Maybe lean the seat back more and/or move the seat further back to avoid the dip where the reinforcement is. Or try move the seat forward more and sit more upright to again try avoid the lower section. Not sure what the spacing looks like for moon roof models. i have the LE w/out it.

Looking at the seat track assy on the passenger side I'm not sure how they can get the seat lower even if powered.
Nice solution would be to make all the sun roof options just that....an option instead of forcing it down your throat (um head and neck) in all the upscale packages. I detest when manufacturers do this crap.

this simply isnt true. All LE models and some Adventure models dont have sun roofs.

Also, Im 6 foot 1 and have no issues fitting, I even have the seat pretty high up.

How was it when you test drove the 2019 XLE?

Why would you buy the RAV4 if you do not fit into it, just asking? My son is 6"2" and never complained?

OK. I have to eat crow on my above response.

I mentioned the head room to my son and he corrected me and said Dad, I am 6'1" not 6'2", and my head just about touches the ceiling on the passenger side and the passenger seat is not automatic and adjustable up and down like the driver side is. I also have to bend my head on an angle getting into the passenger side and back of the car as well.

So I guess the 2019 RAV4 is not for someone over 6 foot tall.

So my apology, my son does not complain about much unless asked.

Bill

I’m 6’3” and I own a 2019 XSE with a pano sunroof. I have several inches of headroom in both front seats as well as the rear. Maybe I have long legs. (32 pants leg)

I sat in the new RAV for the first time a couple weeks ago at the Chicago Auto Show. I have shorter legs and a longer torso (29" inseam). I had to have the seat tilted back too far to NOT hit the ceiling. I was SO disappointed... I was highly considering upgrading to the RAV4 Prime once it released :cautious:
