Are any of you prospective 2019 RAV4 hybrid buyers also considering a comparable Lexus vehicle? Besides price, what would push you in one direction or the other?

It just dawned on me that while price is always an important factor in the purchase of my next vehicle, it might not be the most important factor. I've owned Toyota products since 1989, with a couple of short term exceptions, and I really appreciate the reliability and value of the line. I've never explored the Lexus line, but am at that stage in life when spending a little more to get a little more no longer seems so wild and wacky.

Thanks for any thoughts you have on the question.

Not much, the NX300h is aboat the same as a 2018 Rav4h. Same platform (not the new TNGA), same engine, same driveline. A bit more lux, but you have to pay more for the extras. To me it is not worth the higher price.

I agree that the Lexus RX350 is ugly, looks like the latest Murano, which broke my heart. I owned a 2009 that ran perfectly for ten years, but Nissan changed direction with the Murano, so I switched to a 2018 RAV4 LTD. The NX is no bargain; things that are options on that car are standard equipment on the RAV4. Go figure...

I have ordered a NX300h AWD upper midrange variant (the Executive) and I am trading in my 2016 R4h, it is due from Japan earliest at the end of april. One reason for the NX instead of a new R4h is design. I think Toyota has failed miserably with the new lorry look on the 2019 R4h, was interested in the UX but found it a bit on the small side, similar to the 2013 Auris I had before. Some other reasons; Pioneer audio, analog clock and nice real leather.

The comparable Lexus hybrid would be the NX. The Hybrid drive train is not a turbo, it is identical to the 2018 Rav4 hybrid, so mpg is not exciting and, as another poster pointed out, platform is not updated.

I expect the 2020 NX to be updated but I've waited long enough. There is s slim possibility that Lexus could make an announcement at the New York Auto Show in April.

the NX comes in a turbo 4 and a hybrid, or at least they used to.
That's right but when you are comparing the Rav4 hybrid to an NX. wouldn't you compare it to the NX hybrid? You would compare the gas Rav4 to the NX turbo.

Yeah, Lexus doesn't make an NX300h F-Sport, that's two different models, the NX300h and the NX300 F-Sport, it would be nice if they made an HV version with the 2.0L Turbo tho, a real NX300h F-Sport! :laugh

In my market, Sweden, the NX 300h comes in these trim levels;
Prices in Skr.
Comfort 369 900
Business 424 000
Sport 433 900
Executive 447 000
F SPORT 476 800
Luxury 548 900
F SPORT S 552 100
as You can see there are two F Sport variants and one Sport but they have the same engines so the differences are trim levels.

RAV4Hybrid four trim levels
Life 295 900
Active 302 900
Style 345 900
Executive 345 900

We considered Lexus and BMW. We bought a loaded limited hybrid so the price was comparable. I always assumed I would get a Lexus RX to replace our aging Toyota Sienna. But the awful front grill, bad infotainment set up, several reviews discussing poor cornering, mediocre gas mileage, and lack of safety features that are standard on the Rav4 except in very high trim levels... Naw. BMW just has too many repairs, plus poor mileage, and we keep our vehicles a long time. There are a few features we compromised on to get the hybrid, but now that I'm averaging 44 mpg at the minimum, I can live without a power passenger seat. :)

I have considered all Lexus models against the RAV4 hybrid and none could beat it IMHO. The UX hybrid can get comparable mpg's but is just too small. The NX and NX hybrid are bigger but lose mpgs to the 30-34 range. I also looked at the specs and their cargo space woth rear seats up is less than 20 cu. ft. Rav has double that space! The RX has the cargo space I wanted but has appaling mpg's in comparison to the RAV and costs way more too. Look's wise I might like the Lexus's a bit more, but not by much given the ghastly front grill.

I’ve looked but never felt the value was there for me to spend that much more. Plus Lexus dealers are hard to find.

I'm actually about to seal a deal for a 2019 NX 300h because I can't find a Limited Hybrid RAV4 in my area nor the dealership is willing to order one because of allocations. Also believe it or not my local Lexus dealer is willing to go down in price for more than $3000. The Toyota ones won't give more discount other than the regular rebate.

Deep inside I know the RAV4 offers more for the money but sometimes you have to go with what's available. I could go for a cheaper trim but we keep cars for over 12 years and I don't want to be driving something I don't like.

I would love to wait but I have two kids going to college this year and we are giving them my wife's car.

The NX is waiting for a redesign. The MPG sucks compared to 2019 rav4 hybrid. Looked at RX hybrid too but no apple CarPlay in a 2019 luxury vehicle is a nonstarter for me. I had a 2015 Nissan Murano platinum which is premium/near luxury in that trim. I loved everything about that car - 360 camera, heated and vented seats, power rear seats with controls in the cargo area (which is incredibly convenient), adaptive cruise, and the seats were seriously the most comfortable seats ever. It was the perfect road trip car. But unfortunately it was made by Nissan so it was lemon lawed after a myriad of electrical problems.
