Just bought a 2019 LE Rav4. It has the auto Stop Start System which can be disabled by a button below the radio. It gets reset to Enabled when engine is turned off. It cannot be permanently disabled. It is also disabled when in S Sport mode.

I was at the dealer today and noticed the XLE model does not have the Stop Start system. There was also an LE model just like mine that did not have the Stop Start system. That really confused me as it's listed on my window sticker under Standard Equipment/Mechanical & Performance.

I wonder if customers are complaining about the Stop Start system and Toyota is not including it with the latest shipments.

Would the VIN tell me which was made later than mine?

Anybody know what's going on?
Thanks for any replies,
Brad

Are you sure the LE wasn't a hybrid which doesn't have Auto S/S? Vancouver Toyota has had several HVs in stock in the last two weeks, looked at 2 XLEs and an LE today. Only gas model LEs have that "feature". The build plate between the driver side doors will show when and where it was made.

Quickdtoo, you may be right that I looked at a hybrid. I too was at Vancouver USA. Will drop in again and look more closely. Still getting to know the Rav4 after 18 years with the flawless 01 Tundra. Gave it to grandson who's joining a hotshot forest firefighting crew in Utah.

Which hotshot crew is he joining?
My son is going through the application process for a hotshot crew in Utah.

My Adventure doesn't have the Auto S/S system (at least not that I'm aware of). I would not own a vehicle if that system couldn't be disabled. I think that is about the worst idea that any automotive engineer could have imagined.

I’m thankful mine doesn’t have it either. But at least there is a defeat button.......it’s just resets after ever startup though. Why not have this setting “sticky”.

I drove a rental with Auto S/S that didn’t have a button to defeat it and was always on. Annoying!

I have seen plug in devices to the OBD-II connector and it turns the Stop/Start off for good. Not sure what models they cover, but there a few are out there. Since it's just plugged into the OBD-II, you can remove it during servicing. Many different forums are abuzz with this new feature. As a Sonada hybrid driver the past few years, now a 2019 Rav4 hybrid I know stop start. But a hybrid is quite different. We took a few test drives with various new cars before deciding on the Rav4 hybrid and a number of the test drives did have cars with that feature. All had a button to eliminate it. Lots of YouTube experts saying mostly it a political thing to get an extra .08 mpg better. But spread that over 300,000 cars sold, it makes their CAB requirements.

So there are some out there, you would have to check if they make one for your model car. When my hybrid stops at a light... my air still works, the heat still works.

HVs are totally different systems, the ICE can turn off anytime during slower drives, my '16 Ltd HV ICE would turn off at speeds up to 46mph or so, the HV doesn't have a starter, it uses one of the MGs (motor generators) to start the engine. The only '19 Rav4 that has been reported to have ASS is the LE model, all other gas trims don't have it so far as we know, if there is one, they're keeping it a secret.
