We'll be taking delivery of our Blueprint Limited Hybrid within the week. Was thinking about asking the dealer how much to install the Body Side Moldings. Not sure how I feel about the appearance or how much "door ding" protection they actually offer. What are you thoughts about them?

Am currently thinking that I will install film-based door sill and door edge protection, but thought I would leave installation of the body side molding to the pros.

There are several discussion on this topic, my SOP is not parking where it's vulnerable to morons that don't care about such things.

I installed Xpel door sill guard from Amazon, easy to install and covers the entire sill, not just the top, the roll over edge is where most of the scuffs happen, regular sill protectors don't cover that, see the "Mods" thread.

Body side moldings, I had them installed on my 2016, surely not a do-it-yourself type. I am having them installed on my 2019 Hybrid. Wouldn’t be without them. Some do not like the looks and like the “clean” look. Personal preference.

My dealer called to tell me my RAV will probably arrive at the dealer today! I asked him about installing the body side moldings and he said it would be $399!!! It is only a $209 option from the factory. That really blows. He DID give me that number off the top of his head, so I will follow up and ask again.

Are they fairly easy to get on straight?

Rob
Apparently not.

I didn’t want the side moldings. But, instead of waiting another two months for a car, I accepted one with them, factory installed. I’m happy I did, I now think they improve the look which was my initial hesitation. There is a slight flair that raises them from the level of just being functional.

But the $399 you were quoted seems outrageous. I thought dealer installed should be the same as factory installed, maybe I’m wrong. It can’t take more than ten minutes to install if your car is clean.

To each his own. I like them, have them and having them installed on the new one. I always buy one of the small bottles of matching touch up paint from the parts department. I have seen too many vehicles with dings on the side. Personally, in the past, without them, I have had to use the touch up on the sides. Now I use it to cover any stone chips on the hood, if necessary.

I had bad history with previous cars and door dings. These really do protect the doors wonderfully, I believe they are made of PU coated steel.

Oh and after you put them on, unless you point them out to other people looking at your RAV4, they won't even notice them. They blend in nicely being color matched to vehicle.
