I'm curious about this one too. We also learned that when we have an Android phone connected via bluetooth (radio/music off or on ) that the only way to hear navigation voice prompts is to turn bluetooth off on the phone (voice prompts are then heard through the phone's speaker).
The lack of Android Auto is a shame....lack of audio for navigation is an added irritant.

I rented a low end Citroen compact car for a week in Europe. Bare bones as it was, it had Android Auto. I noticed that with the phone plugged in via USB, the Waze audio would come through even with my source set for FM radio! So convenient!

This really made me hate Toyota's foot dragging....

Why canĂ˝ you understand that it's a license issue; Google wants a huge fee for AA on the RAV as #1 best selling SUV...
Where have you seen that? I've seen Toyota officially say it was a privacy issue where Google wanted too much of the car's data. I've also seen speculation that AA requires a 2.1A connection between phone and head unit which the RAV4 bread unit lacks.

I've never seen this described as a license issue.

If 2.1 amps is required, we're screwed. Theyll never make AA available to 2019 models. Man this is depressing.

That's the way Google works. I'm a developer, and we run into this kind of behaviour every time. Consider this: why do you think they will install it on Aygo and Yaris (EU), and the US versions of 4Runner, Sequoia, Tacoma and Tundra?
They leave out the Corolla, Prius and RAV4 because of the large unit sales...
All about the $$$.

Guys is it possible to get navigation prompts with an android phone through the audio system, while also listening to the cars radio at the same time? can't figure out out! thanks
I stream music using the Bluetooth and hear my navigation voice prompts too. But if you're listening to music on AM/FM radio then you'd have to use your phone's speaker for the navigation voice prompts from your phone. Some technology isn't smart enough to play two separate audio sources through the same speakers. At least that's my experience so far.

I believe carplay used 2.1 way before AA did, my brothers ford would run AA bout not carplay because of this 2.1 connection and he needed to get a new usb to get carplay update for it to work.

I am attaching a video and 2 pics of my Android Auto setup. As you can here from the video I have music playing from my phone and google maps will interrupt the music and speak. I just about gave up on Android auto because there was nowhere to mount the phone. I tried the suction cup on the windshield but for me it interfered with my frontal and r/s view. As you can see from the pics and video my phone Google Pixel 2XL fits perfectly between the 2 knobs on the heater control. I took it for a good spin and took it over a couple of bumps and it didnt move.
I am using the Downloaded google maps but it also works fine with data. The Scout link for me was ok but you cant download the maps. When I go to California this winter I don't want to use my 8 Dollar a day data plan with Koodo for maps so I have downloaded Wash Oregon Calif Las Vegas and Arizona to my phone.

lets see the phone mount
lets see the phone mount
You are looking at the mount in the picture. My Google Pixel XL is the perfect size to fit between the 2 knobs. The knobs being soft coated and the phone having a soft case fit perfectly together and hold the
phone in place. I do lose the small screen for the climate control but I dont mind that. Obviously this is not
for everyone as it is phone specific. Lets hope Toyota relents and gives us all access to Android auto with Entune. I will never buy an Apple product. For me I don't think the Scout app does it.

Here is my solution for now to use google map in my Rav4 with a Android phone. I used the Pro Clip base (https://www.proclipusa.com/vehicle/dashboard-mounts/3840-toyota-rav4/2019) with a WizGear magnetic mount (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F7KNJDM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) as I hope to upgrade my phone soon. Pro Clip also has custom mounts for phone/tablets. They are pricey but the quality is good. I still have access to the climate buttons and it is solid. I don't like the Scout app and hopefully Toyota will allow access to Android Auto which would be great. And if not, in a year or two, I will replace the head unit

I have managed to find a workaround using mirrorlink, to fully mirror my phone on the screen with sound while driving.

So I start up Android Auto and I can play my Tidal playlists while Navigating with Waze/Google Maps where the voice prompts fade the music in and out. The touch screen and steering wheel function also work.

It's a bit finicky and unfortunately voice commands don't work at all but it's the only option I have as the south African Rav4's don't come with Entune , CarPlay or Navigation[emoji26].

HI,
Can you give more details about how did you setup mirrorlink? I was trying to do that with my phone and had 0 success.
Thank you.
