I just found on page 679 of the manual, toyota says "Toyota strongly recommends the use of Top Tier Detergent Gasoline. " Kroger gas is not on top tier list, so is it good enough for rav4 hybrid?

i think you answered your own question:

"Toyota strongly recommends the use of Top Tier Detergent Gasoline. "

Kroger gas isn't Top Tier rated. If you keep your cars 5 years or less...put in whatever odds are it wont impact you. If you keep them longer and want limited issues I wouldn't use it.

And I have seen long lines of people at Apple releases. Doesnt mean its worth it in the long run. My Shells give me a .10 for Kroger Plus. I have quite a few Shells on blocks where Kroger is nearby or a UDF. At 87 its very competitive. Upper levels of octane (not required or necessary for Rav) its a bit of a different story.

Again, do research. GDI is a different beast than the "old school" stuff from prior to 2013. While Toyota has moved to a port injection with GDI which "should" be the best of both worlds...its has yet to be proven how much carbon build up shows on the back side of the valves.

I would rather pay an extra $0.30/gal at a Shell across the street from a no name gas station. I'm not sure how Arco made it on the top tier list but I'm never putting that stuff in any of my cars either.

Its not damage specifically. Its about maintenance and making sure it performs as designed. Carbon build (notorious in GDI cars) up changes timing in cars (retards it) which in turn reduces power if octane isn't increased. Most people dont know that. They just chuck fuel in the car and as long as it goes forward they are happy.

Heck there are people I have read that go 15 20k on oil changes. The car still runs. So I guess thats ok?

Around here almost all the tank trucks fill up at the same tank farm.
Marathon, BP, Speedway, Kroger etc.
CountryMark is the only exception.

15 year OLD story...
Things have changed...
