I checked out "Tire Assistant". What a God-awful app. It doesn't work while the vehicle is moving. WTF? That's the most important time! If I'm driving 4 hours on a vacation trip, I want to know while I'm on the highway.
Below is the response from Tire Assistant app developer why the app closes when the car is in motion.
This is very good information. Otherwise, faulty codes may be triggered.

Hello,
we know a lot of people don't care about warning but we do.
The main reason for this is that the secondary ecu unit could be overcharged of unuseful request from the app and it's canbus can't answer to more important request from other devices in the car (i.e. the primary unit..). This can lead to intermittent faults signals...

That's why we want to avoid this.

I think he meant "overwhelmed" instead of "overcharged".

I don't believe replacing a head unit to get tire gauge readings is a cost effective option.
Not for that function alone when there are cheaper options, but in combination with getting rid of Entune, or adding Nav and XM to a vehicle that doesn't have the Premium audio, it would be worth it for many people.

Two months into ownership and just found out it lacks this feature... Bummer. Any good solutions to this ( besides checking tire pressure every month or so)?

As has been stated previously, there's no way to get a real time pressure reading as you drive(except for Techstream), but android Tire Assistant app and an adapter will read pressures given time, it's a bit slow to display tho, I haven't tried Carista yet.

I tried to find a readout like the photo in the users manual which is also in the guide and also in the dealers new car checklist. It says that the display may vary but shows a phot with pressures readings from all four wheels. There is a note that on cars made I. Japan that they will not have this system. My car was manufactured in Canada so I assumed it would have the display. After some time investigation it turns out that NO RAV4 s have this feature. They do have a monitoring system that uses differential pressures and gives a warning but they do not have the sensors that read each tires pressure.

Even tho the manual infers that Canadian built '19s have the readout, none have been reported to actually have it, can only be read digitally with a phone app or Techstream.

They do have the sensors, just not the software to display the readings.

The (Android) Tire Assistant app, when connected by bluetooth to an OBDII adapter will give you all 4 tire pressures. The app couldn't do that if the Rav doesn't have the sensors.

Hey guys there is a built in way to check this in the Toyota App on your phone.

1. Open the Toyota App (you must sign in and have your car registered; sometimes the readings don’t appear right away after the first sign in). This is the regular “Toyota” app not the owners one or the remote connect app.
2. Click the drop-down at the top with the name of your car (top middle of the screen)
3. Select “Tire Pressure” under the maintenance category on the dropdown.

You will then see the readout of your tire pressures. Not sure how frequently it updates but I’ve seen it shift slightly over different checks and if you just want to check periodically this is the cheaper way to do it.

Mine says N/A on all 4.

Owned an OBD2 reader unit(wireless bluetooth) unit already. $23 on Amazon and their are even less expensive ones. Tire Assistant is very cool and works. No need to get out a guage and wear out the knees of my pants. Wasn't even sure that I had tpms after owning the car for over 6 months , but recently found out it's on all RAV 4s. Works on my 2015 Corolla also. Totally cool tech. I would pass on the Toyota app since you have to jump through hoops and register. You do need Android on your phone with Tire Assistant.

Why not just start the car for a minute without driving it, then turn it off so the tire pressures get updated?
That doesn't work, I drove a couple miles to hit a mailbox before collection time, and it still stayed at NA the first time I used it, it apparently takes a several mile trip to update, so getting a cold reading is impossible.

When you pull the screen down in the app, it appears to refresh the data. It does the odometer, why not poll the tire pressure at that time. That would make this system worthwhile for tire pressure monitoring.
