On close examination of 2020 model at dealer I notice wheel wells are not lined with typical hard plastic but rather have a very flimsy pre-molded felt type liner (maybe for extra sound deadening). My concern would be that rain, snow, mud, etc would be bound to make these things rot very quickly. Yet it seems like to obvious an issue for Toyota to overlook. Am I nuts? Does anyone have any experience so far with how these felt liners being are holding up?

No problems. Nissan has been using them in the rear also for more then several years.

Extensive driving on a gravel drive hasn't been an issue, but I have noticed that the rear is quieter then the front when the gravel is being kicked up.

Have a good day.

Thanks much for the reply. Havent looked at other models or shopped for a new car in some time. Just didnt see how that material could possibly hold up over the long haul. Worst case scenario, i guess it could always be replaced pretty easily.

Do the 2019's have these as well?
Yes, they do. My 2019 Adventure has that felt lining the wheel wells. It seems kind of soft, so I hope it lasts for the long haul in rainy weather. It does seem to shed the dirt pretty good if you give it a good hosing, but I'm betting something sticky like road tar will adhere like crazy. Time will tell how well this stuff works.

Toyota uses these material in the 2012 Camry. i had one and it had held up very well. Have not seen any issue with it considering we live in a snow and ice country. Even with the massive amount during winter time had not bother the liner.
