Hi all!
I will be taking delivery of an SE in 3 weeks, and was wondering if any of the cabin outlets can remain turned on when the car is off, and power a dash cam using the traction battery?
I'd like to get a dash cam with motion activated monitoring function to watch over the car while it's parked in public; it would be great if this can be set up without having to hardwire.

When Toyota hybrids (and plug-in hybrids) are not in READY mode, the traction battery is isolated via relays. This leaves the small spec 12v battery to deliver power to accessories and USB/12v connected devices when not in READY mode.

Here are the 12v battery replacement specs from the R4P Owner’s manual;
“Use a 12-volt battery that machers size is same as the previous one (LN2), 20 hours rate capacity (20HR) is equivalent (55Ah) or greater, and performance rating (CCA) is equivalent (345A) or greater.”

You can run that small 12v battery down fast while it isn’t being charged by the DC/DC converter connected to the big traction battery. So leave your Prime in READY mode while you sit and listen to music and enjoy AC heat/cold. As far as dash cams go look for the one with the smallest mA resting draw, a low voltage camera shutdown trigger, or a built in battery. Closely monitor 12 battery health when you get your dash cam working and report back to this forum. Maybe check in the Rav4 Hybrid forums for dash cams that work well in Hybrids.

same here, I installed my Dashcam. It helped!

No, it is not. As soon as the engine state is OFF (no READY light) the traction battery will be disconnected from the rest of the car with relays. No more power flows out of the traction battery pack.

I'd like to hear what other people do. I've been using Viofo A119Ss on my old car plugged into the outlet, but wanting to upgrade to something with parking mode now. I'm looking at the Thinkware U1000 or Q800 and hardwiring it.

I've had a similar setup in my old car using viofoA129 duo (honestly one of the best budget system)
For my 2020 Toyota RAV4 XLE ive installed the thinkware Q800 using the echomaster obd 2 (Thinkware Accessories - OBD II Power Cable | Dash Cam | Thinkware USA)
Side note may not be fully compatible with hybrids

I would usually wire this to a fuse port ( honestly super simple but you lose the cover that covers the fuse box so i opted for this instead.

Im running from the obd2 port to the passenger a pillar up and over behind the mirror so i don't see it while driving
