Just started my 2 week old R4P and was backing up and steering felt stiff. Then warning came on: Power steering Malfunction, Steering Power Low, See Dealer. Anyone else have this problem?
Sorry, nope, haven’t had that trouble here.Just started my 2 week old R4P and was backing up and steering felt stiff. Then warning came on: Power steering Malfunction, Steering Power Low, See Dealer. Anyone else have this problem?
Take a video of it then unplug the 12V in the trunk for 30 minutes then reconnect to reset it. The warning light might go away but take it to the dealer. My guess is that the 12V battery is defective and needs a replacement.Just started my 2 week old R4P and was backing up and steering felt stiff. I would want to find this out now, and have a solution in place as soon as possible. From your post, it seems that checks and balances were in place to correct the problem. This is not true of all companies.Update: Toyota service replaced faulty 12v battery but Power Steering Malfunction warning still came on. Consulted with national Toyota product engineer and decided issue was electrical problem in Power Steering Rack. Replaced Power Steering Rack and Pinion and everything seems okay now. Naturally I was disappointed to have this problem but I felt like the local service manager and shop foreman responded in a customer focused manner.
No. The re-calibration is only for the backup camera's dynamic grid lines. Does not affect steering or drivability in any way.Read somewhere that if the 12v battery is replaced, the steering module(s) needs to be reset. What that means I do not know. But does this mean everyime you disconnect or replace your 12v battery in the cargo area, you need a toyota service tech go in somewhere and reset or recalibrate your steering? I find that ridiculous. How are you suppose to get to a dealership to have that done if the steering is not set properly? And who pays for that? Sounds screwed up to me. Sounds like you can't cut the cord from Toyota, even for something as basic as a battery change. Any answers for this one?
