Hi! Is there a way to shut off the start-stop function for good? I can manually push the button to shut if off, but as soon as you shut off the engine yourself and restart, the start-stop function is back on. I find it quite annoying and would rather just turn it off altogether. Is that possible? Thanks!

I’ve read on some other Toyota forums where people have done this by modifying the circuit behind the button to operate inverse with a special inline gizmo. I don’t have Auto SS on mine so I haven’t researched it but you can probably find some hits with El Goog.

Edit: This thing, unsure if anyone makes one for the 4.5.

How hard are you pressing that gas pedal?. I have to force it really hard that I forget to use it. Also if I keep it in sport its also disabled

I just found this video on youtube & I hope it helps. I can't stand this annoying "feature." The device seems like there is a delay of some kind but I'm willing to give it a try just so I don't have to deal with it anymore.

I just ordered it today so I'll come back and let everyone know how it goes once I get it installed. I've got a 2020 XLE Premium (gas) btw

Silly start stop feature, known to the state of California to claim a few more MPG. 🖕to start stop.

"A study by the Society of Automotive Engineers found that using start-stop can see a car's fuel economy improve by over eight percent in heavy traffic. That might not sound like a lot, but over time, it adds up to a whole lot of wasted gas."

Having driven rentals with this feature I won't say I wish I had it. But, I am not sure it is accurate to say the feature doesn't technically work.

I agree with OP, I turn off the S/S everytime I get into the car. Have ‘21 XLEP and also turn off front and rear collision as well because it triggers trying to park in my tight garage. My dash has constantly has 3 dummy lights on which is also annoying.

Yes. Open the hood and look down. Immediately to the right of the hood latch, there's an electrical connector. Unplug it. Someone else posted about this in a thread here stating that the SS system is disabled if the hood is unlatched. So, unplugging that connector makes the SS think the hood is always open and it won't activate. You can turn off the pop-up notifications for SS in the center gauge cluster info screen. That mod worked perfectly for my 2020 XLE. No beeping, warnings, lights or anything.
