I had the Rav4 for only 4 days and I got a nasty rock hit the windshield. I am hoping the can fill it in instead of needing to replace the whole windshield. In the past, my glass guy had told me that they newer cars with all the sensors, need to be recalibrated after the replacement. Has anyone replaced their windshield lately? I am wondering how much work / cost it takes to replace and possibly recalibrate all the sensors. Kinda sucks because I rather not replace the whole thing and create more problems

I’ve had mine replaced in Sweden, insurance payed for most of it, and they had the car for a full day. But I have started to notice more windnoise now when driving in high speed on windy days. They have not been able to fix the issue so far, also hard for me to document the noise as my phone does not pick up most of the noises.

Have had windshield replaced in my Prime twice now. First change was screwed up so bad that they had to replace it. Is going back for third time because wiper device is not working now. car is month old with 1600 miles.
About an hour each time to remove and replace.

Did you end up using a auto glass company or the dealership?

Unfortunately, the tech involved in today's windshields has made it MUCH more difficult with regard to replacement.....hopefully your situation can be resolved without too much issues!!!
I have a sinking feeling this idea will not be limited to the windshield. One look at the 618 page R4P owner manual left me with that sinking feeling! There is just so much stuff that can fail, or so it seems. Haven't taken delivery yet but I'm certain things will be alot more complicated to resolve w/ this car than our '15 Forester. I guess we can call it the price of this sort of progress, and keep all our fingers crossed. Certainly savings in fuel costs will never offset this sort of thing.

Time to see if insurance has a windshield replacement component to pay for. Though to be frank, in 50y of driving I've only had to replace 2 or 3 windshields.
Windshields like any glass is covered under your Comprehensive coverage, you decide what level of deductible. Remember, these OEM windshields are acoustic, and Safelite may not use them due to cost.

On my previous Subaru Forester, I had the Eyesight system which are stereo cameras vs radar. Replaced a windshield practically every year for 4 years. Always made insurance go with OEM glass, but I never had it calibrated at the dealer. The safety system never had any issues. The manual also says don't place a tint on the windshield but I did and that never affected it, either.

If you are worried about messing with the sensors or disturbing that factory seal around the windshield, have Safelite do a windshield repair. They will attempt to fill the crack and prevent it from spreading. This procedure took 30 minutes when I had my Prius Prime.

Then if you are unhappy with how it turned out, you can state "I am not satisfied with the repair" Safelite will replace the entire windshield. This process will take 3-4 hours as Safelite has to recalibrate the sensors. I should have requested OEM glass, but didn't. Although they did a great job with the sensors and even improved them. When I use to drive the notification about "speed limit signs" rarely showed up. After the calibration, it worked fine. Again this happened when I had my Prius Prime.

Check your insurance coverage. Geico allowed me to have free windshield repairs and for the replacement, it only cost me $50.

During the recent purchase of my Certified '18 Rav4, the dealer pushed some kind of windshield insurance and mentioned the need for sensor recalibration... A quick call to my insurance agent confirmed that my policy covered all that with a $50 deductible, so I declined the dealer offer (which I assumed was a money grab).

I think it depends where you live/drive as to how often you may require these services... Up here in the Northeast, stone chips that can be repaired are regular occurrences and the winter cold can make a small chip grow into feetlong cracks as soon as the defroster hits them. I've had probably a dozen repairs and 4 or 5 replacements over the years, but the next one will be my first high tech experience.. Fortunately, it seems policies offering free repairs are common where I live - you only pay the deductible if you require (or desire) replacement. We'll see how it goes when the inevitable day comes.
