Looking for some clarification. Forgive my ignorance, but I have a 2007 FWD RAV4 with a 4 cyl engine. Is the front differential part of the transmission and does it share the same ATF fluid with the transmission? I'm asking because I recently drained and refilled my transmission, but want to make sure I don't have to drain and refill the front differential too. In other words, does the front differential share the same ATF fluid with the transmission? Thank you.

Your FWD RAV4 has a transaxle, which is a combination transmission/differential/driveshafts that share the same transmission fluid. The 4WD RAV4 has a transfer case attached to the transaxle, which uses a thick gear oil. Luckily, us FWD owners don't have to worry with a transfer case, drive shaft, and rear differential.

Awesome! Good to know it's called a transaxle and that the transmission drain and refill I did will take care of it. Thanks again.
