Anyone had a used oil analysis (UOA) done?

T-SB-0104-21 speaks of gas blow-by into oil under cold conditions with short trips for '19-'22 hybrids. Examine your oil color and, if milky, see the dealer and refer to this T-SB.

Reported on another forum with a UOA confirming.
Yes, I used oil analysis on my 2022 RAV4 Hybrid for the first oil change at 6K miles. I did the oil change myself and sent the sample to Blackstone Labs. My RAV4 does not get many short trips in it's daily life. It was cool the first couple months (Feb & Mar). Oil looked like it was almost new when I changed it. The lab report showed some extra metals from wear-in. Silicone and Molybdenum were much higher than the universal averages. Fuel in the oil sample was about 1/2 the universal average. The lab said I should expect to see progress with future oil change samples as the readings for my sample are typical for a brand new vehicle. I am sure glad I decided to change the oil myself, earlier than 10K at the dealer.
 
If you are looking for longest appropriate OCI for "your" Rav...you need to do oil analysis. Those analysis (more than one) should cover all seasons to address "most" temps and conditions a vehicle will go through.

"I" used to do long OCIs. But with premium oils and doing a proper testing pattern, changing filters at the middle...blah blah blah...its easier and more cost effective for "me" to just do 5k OCIs.

And there is no addictive/protection package in any oil that lasts forever.
 
And yet some folks don’t think you should never change your transmission fluid 😂
To each their own. But I am of the change early camp. just because I change early doesnt insure longevity...but figuring 10/Qt of WS...50 bucks? Peoe spend more than that on coffee a month.

Ill have abiut 39K after this vacation and Ill change it. Its cheap easy insurance AND my local.shops recycle oil. In my mind its a no brainer.

Is that price for an off brand WS fluid or Toyota? I bought two cases of Toyota WS fluid a while back, 6 quarts to a case and it lists $12.32 a quart. I paid $9.86 a quart.

On most of my receipts I’ve paid $7-8 per quart and a $2 for the drain and fill crush washers. Comes out to about $35 when changing it on my Prius.

I too have wondered about the 10K oil change interval. 🤔

Did ask the Toyota service rep about it, he went over the list, new oil, engine,,,ect, ect...said 10K is the recommended interval..

As many have said most might qualify for the severe usage 5k schedule, can't hurt 🙂
presently at 3k,,,at 5k do intend to request the oil to be changed.

Did find the comments in the clip about the dealers using other then the recommended oil in their oil changes a little odd considering the documentation on the invoice
that states the oil, filter ect......😐
 
Some dealers will give you two. Period. Some dealers will.require 10k on odometer before changing.

I never took mine in. Its a marketing gimmick.

Pretty much what my dealer said, they require 10k

I'm thinking at 5k, just request that they change it, my dime...

They can do all the changes at 10K their dime 🙂

I can remember 3k being the standard, and 5k being questioned 🤔

at any rate,,5k sounds about right....
for me...at this time...🙂


In the military they did it by a schedule then they went to AOAP "Army's Oil Analysis Program"

back in the 70s

These checks can help extend oil life, which is especially beneficial at JBB (located in northern Iraq, approximately 75 kilometers north of Baghdad), where some generators take up to 50 gallons - five gallons short of a barrel - of oil each, he said.

"On these generators, manufacturer warranty requires you to change the oil every 250 hours," Bass said.

"You're going through a drum of oil every time you have to do an oil change.

We can extend that life up to 1,500 hours easily on most generators, unless it's a problem child."

 
If you get your oil changed at the dealer with the dealer’s mystery oil why would you risk going 10,000 miles on it?

Because, it's free at 10k as part of the Toyota care plan, and no matter what happens its well documented.

I would go beyond 5k and change before 10k, but I do my own oil changes using quality oil, not cheap bulk oil.
What ever oil they use must meet their own specs....
its on the invoice what type of oil they use...

at some point all oil is stored in bulk containers, before being put into quart containers no ?

Sure it’ll get you through your power train warranty of 5yrs/60k miles. Any problems won’t come up until you start burning oil after that. Good luck with that.

What makes it cheap is that the dealer is still going for the highest profit margin on a $50 to $70 oil change. They are already paying a jr tech $15/hr so they are going to get the cheapest bulk oil they can acquire as the video states. You’re looking at bulk oil that averages out to $2/qt.
