Hello everyone
Just purchased a 2005 RAV4 with 200 K on her.
She is an absolute beauty.
I would like to replace the head unit currently installed with a more modern version that will allow me to use bluetooth to run Android Auto and/or Apple Car play.
(And anything else a new unit would allow if possible.)
I have watched a couple of YouTube videos on replacing the head unit with another 2005 head unit and the videos make it LOOKS pretty easy.

Has anyone here done such a thing ? (Swapped out a stock 2005 head unit for something newer)
If so, I wonder if I might ask ...
What make and model replacement head unit did you purchase ?
Where did you purchase it from ?
Was the swap a difficult job ?

Thanks.

I bought the Boss BE7ACP-FT Carplay head unit from Crutchfield, just installed it yesterday. The previous owner had already installed an aftermarket unit, so it was a simple process of twisting the necessary wires together on the harness and sliding it in. I just twisted the parking brake wire into the ground wire as I didn't have any extra wire laying around to run thru the car.
If the previous owner hadn't installed a deck already, it may have been a bit more difficult to do. The instructions looked fairly simple to follow though.

Installing the backup camera at the same time was a whole other beast that took most of the day to finish lol

I did wrap them in electrical tape and hit it with a heat gun. Never had any problems with twisting in the past with any of the other vehicles I've installed stereos in. If I ever have any issues I'll pull it out and use crimp clamps.

Crutchfield is by far number 1 for car audio. Yes you may save a few extra $$ from Elsewhere but the customer service AND technical support is best is the biz. I went with the Boss DVD with the back up camera. I didn’t bother with the steering adapter, wasn’t necessary to me. While the unit needed some side insert also included, it works great. Unfortunately with the license plate to the left, it makes centering the rear camera impossible. All in all the head unit was a plug and play with the harness that they include. The back up camera needed the extra work to run wires and removing the rear door panel.

Wanted to see if you were able to install your new head unit? How do you like it?

I installed a $50 Blaupunkt Baltimorr kit, the 6.5 3 way speakers went in the back doors and the fronts speakers were replaced with $50 cervin wega components. One touch to shut off all lights on the display at night is one of my favorite options, the built in mic sucks for BT calls, but is useable, overall the controls are pretty well thoughtout for such a low cost product. I did prep the doors and cabin with deadner, plumbers putty and limp mass and that does makes a difference. I opted for a switch operated cam on the rear plate, it inputs into the AV input of the HU, massively helpful when needed, used a Y RCA splitter on the input so I can hookup playstation or other video source into it and enjoy the massive 7 inch screen, but there is a video output on it so a projector on the closed tail door on a camping night may be a fun option. I just got a 2.1 diy amp board 50x2+100Ă—1, from Amazon and hoping to fit a 8 dedicated sub somewhere.
