I replaced both VVT solenoids today, and the solenoid on the intake side is stuck with about an inch and a half remaining. I can’t get it to move any further. Does anyone have any suggestions? For the exhaust side I had to hammer the flat side of a pry bar to get to seat.

Yep, lubed them up really well with clean leftover motor oil I had sitting in the garage. I was able to make progress after dropping off the kids at daycare, and I only have about an inch left. I think the hot engine helped. I am going to take a drive at lunch and see if I can get the rest in. Would the solenoid not being seated completely against the block cause a P0012 to come on? The light came on, after restarting the car this morning.

Can't help with your specific questions but it seems that if hammering is needed you're doing something wrong. Are you possibly working against a hydro-lock?

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I was finally able to get it in using a bar clamp on the flat side of the solenoid near the electrical connector and on the other side I used a thin piece of wood in between the other side of the clamp and the block. Not sure why it was so difficult to get in. When I removed the old solenoids, the o-rings were still in tact. I just hope I never have to replace them any time soon. In terms of the CEL and the code, I cleared it with my scan tool and will keep an eye out to see if it returns.
