toyota platinum vsa don't have a lot of clauses. they cover a ton of things. they don't do interior trim for example, and that includes
sun visors, but the hinge on my driver side visor on Tacoma cracked, and the visor drooped. dealer said that is trim, not covered, but they
will check with Toyota financial....nope, it was covered because it has a mechanical hinge that snapped. easy peasy. anything more major
than a sun visor ? totally covered. toyota vsa are legit smooth experiences ime. also had Yaris with exhaust leak at flexpipe....covered by VSA

I agree with folks above that with a VSA you are just prepaying for anticipated repairs. I rarely used to get these agreements, but I think this model of the RAV4 has some design/quality issues and makes it less Toyota-like (at least the Toyota of the past) than before, and therefore, IMHO, the chances of needing to use it is higher than in the past. I therefore plan on purchasing the warranty early next year, before my 3 years is up.

Also, I will be keeping this vehicle for about 10 years.

FYI, for similar reasons, I DID buy a VSA for my 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, because I perceived it to be of lower quality than Toyotas. So far, it has had a lot of recalls, but I have not used the VSA yet (4 more years to go). I could have recently, for a trunk switch problem, but I fixed it myself for $20, and it just was not worth driving to the dealer for.

all three prior toyotas (well, still have them) all got VSA at dealer price, not cost, so ultimately overpaid for the VSA's vs what was fixed under them.

this time with rav4 I hunted around and got a new 7/100 platinum VSA for 465 bucks less than 3 other dealers were going to be charging me.

so....still may end up on the short end when/if anything busts before 2029, but I feel less bad about it.

Read the cablegate threads and then come back and tell us the contract doesn't have clauses that let Toyota get out of doing the right thing.

My concern is that these “warranties” don’t cover everything that the factory warranty does.

I don’t know the know exact details but a friend was having problems and thought that her was plan would cover the repair. She found out that it did not and had to pay out of pocket for the repair.

Why are you people saying "ro deductible that will be honored by any Toyota dealer in the U.S. and Canada)" when that is only true if the policy is purchased from the seller of the car or the seller of the policy.

If you are that disciplined in saving money then that may be a good approach but keep in mind you'll have to pay for ALL repairs. It is very expensive to service a car these days. If an AC condenser or infotainment system goes out, you will get back the cost of the extended warranty and then some with 1 repair. In addition, you will not have to pay for any additional repairs after that which may be significant. If you go the savings route, you'll pay for all of those repairs.

In addition, the better extended warranties will provide you with a car rental while your car is in the shop which is another expense to consider. Typically, they can be cancelled at any time and you will get the pro-rated balance back. Some also are transferrable if you sell the car which adds to the resale value.

So my recommendation would be that if you are going to keep the car long term (greater than 5 yrs) and if you can get a good deal on the warranty ($2k or less) I think it would be worth consideration.
Can you buy the Toyota Extended Warranty from another dealer advertised on the Internet for less then the dealer you buy the car from? I do this with my Fords and save a lot of money for the exact same warranty. If there is a Toyota dealer that sells the plans for less, who is it? I just keep reading you have to buy it from the dealership for their price and cannot buy one from another Toyota dealer specializing in selling these extended warranties. The Ford Extended Warranty was sold to me fir $1289 which was a thousand + less then the dealer's quote when I purchased the car.

Thank you. I e-mailed her as prices are not on the dealer web site. Do you have any idea of prices for factory Platinum Toyota Extended Warranty for 7 years, 150,000 miles would be?
There is usually a brochure showing the different plans.

Doesn't the contract read that zero deductibles only apply if contract was bought from the dealer that sold you the contract or from whoever sold you the contract. Everywhere else you pay $100 each repair visit. There may be options offered by the different sellers.

no. if you have zero deductible it is zero everywhere
it is the cheaper '100 dollar disappearing deductible' that goes to zero at selling dealer only

  1. Plans feature $0 or $100 deductible options. Deductible applies to each eligible repair visit. The deductible is the dollar amount you pay for authorized claims related to a single repair visit. If the disappearing deductible option is selected and the selling dealer of the VSA performs covered repairs, the $100 deductible will be waived. Otherwise the full deductible amount applies.

all the info is online

And message 15 in this theread has the contact info of 2 sources of discounted VSAs.
and ...that wolverine contact info is wrong, [it exists] it just changed a bit.

it will still be 'wolverine toyota' stamped on your VSA booklet when you buy one
but her details have changed since she moved to a sister dealership.

PM JuneBug (admin here) for the real details.

it has been requested to not post up the details...rather to PM JuneBug for any and all discount VSA info

in the meantime yes I did just get one and saved 465 bucks
vs three local dealer quotes for a TFS 0/7/100,000 platinum

I agree. I recently bought my 2022 RAV4 XLE Premium hybrid with the most bells and whistles I’ve ever had on a car. So many electronic systems and motors it’s kind of scary thinking of all the things that could go wrong if you intend to keep your vehicle a long time. Most people will say an extended warranty is not worth it because Toyota is so reliable. If you look at it like insurance where you don’t expect to make money but as protection against an unknown future and as peace of mind it can be worth it, IF you can buy it at the right price. I was offered the Toyota Platinum, zero deductible 8 year/75,000 option for $2295.

On this forum I learned they can be purchased much cheaper from certain dealers. I am about to purchase the same warranty with coverage for 10 years/100,000 miles for $1365. I could also choose the 8 year option my dealer offered for $765. That’s nearly a third of the cost. I can also purchase an extended Toyota maintenance plan that extends the 2 year/25,000 Toyota Care plan to 5 years/55,000 miles for about $550.

So for me, yes, I think it’s worth it, but there’s no uniform answer to the question.
I get confused with people suggest buying warranties from outside sources or other dealers. It's hard to know what is 'legit'.
I was offered 8yr / 150,000 for $3k and it seemed high and was told it was high.
Also agree with so many electronic things that could potentially go wrong. I don't need to finance the $3k and plan to keep my car for a LONG time, so I do wonder if it's worth it for me?

A toyota VSA Vehicle Service Agreement is the 'real one'
