Hi folks. Found a 2006 Rav4 online. Price $11,000 (seems high) with 65,000 miles. Is the Rav4 prone to have under body rust. It's located in Vermont (rust belt). If you cane tell me issues I would appreciate it. Thank you

If it has the 2.4l engine that is very prone to burning lots of oil unless the Toyota engine rebuild which Toyota offered as the fix was done. If you can get the VIN you can register at www.toyotaowners.com and scroll to the maintenance section and if the rebuild was done it should show, along with any other services done by Toyota dealers and owners can even enter info if they do the services themselves or are done at an independent shop. Obviously a check for rust is vital since that can even cause problems with underbody safety and structural components. Good luck!

Thank you Blogson

Any vehicle is prone to rust in a salty road environment, but Toyotas are generally solid. Definitely find out about the engine oil burning issue (2.4 engines from 06 to 08) and have it put up on a lift to inspect the underbody.
I've got an 08 4 cylinder that luckily had the engine rebuild recall done and I've got 234,000 kms on it now. Still runs like new.
Good luck..

IMO $11K is very high for an '06, especially an I4 even with 65K on the odometer. It better be pristine all the way thru.

The oil burn issue is a concern but hasn't been a show stopper at least for me. I first noticed it in 2012. Long story short, I never had the rebuild done. 10 years along it's still running like a top at 200K + miles and passes smog checks. It does burn oil. I have to add a quart every 900-1100, up from 6-700 after a Seafoam treatment. I just check the oil every weekend and add as needed.

I owned 2 L4 before, great cars. Now I have the V6 version, man... go for the V6... my 2 cents...
Agreed! But let me add two letters "go for the V6 GO" 😁
