I have the Carlinkit on my and my wife’s RAV4s they have worked great. But If they work on installatioN, DON’T update the software. Leave well enough alone.
If you decide to buy them or another CarPlay adaptor make sure you buy it from a dealer that has a good return policy.

Can I ask what year RAV4 you have? And which of the CarPlay devices did you put in?

Let everybody know an issue. When I installed the Carlinkit in both cars I used velcro command strips to secure them to the passenger side of the storage are under the A/C vents. this keeps them from being knocked around or having "stuff" tossed on them. Well my wife said her's suddenly wouldn't play certain songs and was having issues. I went and looked at it. It was laying on the charging pad and had come loose from the velcro. in placing it back I pressed on the top of the unit and heard and felt a click. Turned everything back on and all has worked great since then.

I did also velcro the carlinkit 4.0 just above the the USB port. I did however had some issues with AA. I did a bunge of tweaks what they suggested on their website. And now it works 95 % of the time smoothly. So not totally happy. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.

I have a Superior Tek Apple Car Play dongle that works well (almost 100%) with my 2022 RAV4 Prime. Got it on Amazon but it is no longer available. They have a newer 5.0 model. I bought an organizer for the area where it plugs into the USB data port and it is attached with Velcro to the bottom of it and out of sight. I have two Apple connectors (Lightening?) for our iPhones connected to the 12 volt outlet so we can put our iPhones in the cubby shelves and charge them while driving. Very neat application.
