I just purchased a 2023 RAV4 Hybrid Limited. I tried to use the hands free power lift gate, even made sure it was turned on in settings. It doesn’t make a beep or open. Am I doing something wrong?is anyone else having problems with this? I would really hate to take this to the dealership for someone to show me that I’m an idiot. Please help!

It took me a while to figure out how to get this to work consistently. My biggest mistake when I first got the car was to stick my foot under the bumper and wait for something to happen before I pulled my foot out. This is wrong. You have to kick your foot under and pull it back out in one smooth motion. Then a split second later, it'll beep and flash the lights, then open. If you keep your foot under too long, it won't work.

I've had it activate when I was washing the bumper under the hatch. I had the FOB in my pocket and as I washed the lower half of the bumper in a side to side motion, I was surprised by the beeping and lights flashing. I almost got hit in the head by the time I realized what was happening. The funny thing, other than almost being hit in the head, is that 9 out of 10 times, I can't get it to open with a leg kick. I have now pretty much given up and use the FOB as I approach the vehicle to unload groceries.

Best thing about it is closing it when you are backing away with two hand full of packages/groceries. I'd say it works 95% on the first kick upwards. Always by the second kick. I really like the multiple ways of opening/closing the hatch.

I struggled with this at first. The instructions say you need the key fob on your body and just do a kick under the center of the rear bumper. Kick and pull back, don't hold your foot under. It worked once I did that.

I just recently got a 2023 hybrid limited and the feature is working great. However, the vehicle has to be locked for it to work. It takes a second or two to activate but works to both open or close the door...and with the fob in your pocket...LOL.
