Thanks for the video link !

Also has anyone noticed that the factory spare (T165/80R17 ) is 1.1" smaller than the 225/65R17 tire on the vehicle ,, I am surprised that Toyota is allowing this because running a significantly different diameter tire can damage the differential . I was always told that anything over half an inch difference in tire diameter will damage the differential of a vehicle, no matter how long you run it for . Does anyone have thoughts on this ?

the spare can not do damage if you follow the instructions in the manual about using the spare, mileage limits and speed limits
on the spare. it is designed to get you to a place where you can fix the situation fully, not meant to be driven around all day.
----------
The compact spare tire is identified by the label “TEMPORARY USE ONLY” on the tire sidewall.
Use the compact spare tire temporarily, and only in an emergency.

Replace the compact spare tire with a standard tire as soon as possible.
----------
Speed limit when using the compact spare tire
Do not drive at speeds in excess of 50 mph (80 km/h) when a compact spare tire is installed on the vehicle.
The compact spare tire is not designed for driving at high speeds. Failure to observe this precaution may lead to an accident
causing death or serious injury.
-------------------
it will not damage the differential. it will make hotter but then that is why there are speed limits and mileage limits on donut spares.

there are numerous warnings in the manual about what to do and not to do when a compact spare is installed.

the manual state thing such as this for normal, day to day operation:
Do not use wheels that are a different size from those recommended in the Owner’s Manual,
as this may result in a loss of handling control.

but it also has additional caveats when a compact spare is in use

@jordoncloutier I would highly recommend replacing the compact/temp spare with full size, then you wont have to worry about diff damage. Nor would you have to worry about distance and speed. It sounds like a solid option.

Is any one running a Full size spare tire ( 225/65R17 ) ? I am needing to know if it will fit where the factory donut sits.

Thanks
After I got my XLE Premium hybrid last year (225/60-18), I took one of the wheels off to see if it would fit in the spare tire well. It fit. Only issue was the floor board above it was slightly raised at the front, perhaps 1/2" is all.

I am using a full sized spare in mine, I bought a used 19-inch XLE Premium/Limited rim from a member on this forum and had a cheapo Walmart tire installed on it.

Fits great, I have a gas model.
