Hoping to get the OE part numbers for the 2X rear license plate screws and plastic inserts that the screws go into. I bought our 2020 LE recently and the plate screws are severely stripped out leaving very little bite to hold the plate on. Not sure the previous owner used the right bolts or screws.

I spent some time looking at gate part diagrams but can’t find the two screws and two inserts needed.

if anyone has replaced theirs please advise! Would also love to know if the lower gate trim panel would need to come off to remove the stripped plastic inserts.

And buy stainless screws to avoid the rust streaks I see on so many license plates. Looks particularly terrible on new cars.

Have had that problem on a couple of previous vehicles. I inserted a thin strip of plastic into the bolt holes to provide enough bite for the OEM license plate screws to hold. Never had any problem with the plates becoming detached and cost was zero. And the OEM bolts apparently were stainless since they never rusted even with at the time Minnesota winter salted roads.

Gosh darn, double darn, those are really hard to find! Part number is 61617-42070 for the retainer.

You can use just about any screw, machine or sheet metal, as long as it is stainless as Dr. Dyno suggested. I used an M6x1.0 stainless machine screw.

No need to remove the gate panel, just pry out the old retainers, being careful not to scratch the paint.

While you are at it, be sure to stock up on the foam rubber cushion that keeps the license plate from rattling, part number 75129-30010.

Amazing, thank you for the part numbers!!

I bought this pack on Amazon since this insert is found in a lot of places on the RAV4:

I also bought a bag of these:

Yep, the silicone frames are great. A bit difficult to insert the license plate. The California ones were extremely sharp so care must be taken.

I've had a lot of issues with my screws backing out and recently lost my rear license plat on a long drive. Any recommendation or replacements I should look at?
Try new inserts, cited above; the old ones may have dried out and shrunk. Also, make sure you are using the right size screws.

Thanks for the replies. I've been on the search for and trying aftermarket options with just... made threads; but they all seem to only be built to reduce rattling and not secure the license plate entirely. This is one of those rare moments where I'm surprised Toyota hadn't used a more reliable solution. I've never known plastic inserts like this to hold up to weather and wear in other applications.
