I have not been able to fill my RAV's gas tank. The most gas I can get in is about 3/4 full on the gas indicator. I can still continue to fill but the pump clicks off after a few seconds, I'm afraid to go further for fear of overfilling. Anyone else experience this problem?

Good tip Chuckles. If that does not resolve the problem, my next stop would be the dealer for warranty service. Something is definitely wrong. I've never had a problem with different nozzles with my Prime, but I have heard of this on other vehicles. Certainly worth a try.

today I filled up for the first time. I think the prime thought I had about 50 miles left prior to the fill up. car took a little over 10 gallons. I'm thinking that 50 miles must be really conservative and it was more like 120 miles or so. the gauge did read full after I filled up though.

Try a different pump. I know there was a TSB that went as far as replacing fuel filler parts and fuel tank for hybrids that had inaccurate needle reading and/or unable to fill all the way related issues. Hopefully it is just a random occurrence for your Prime. The only fuel related complaints I've seen for the Prime including from myself are that the reserve tank could be a bit smaller, or wishing DTE were true DTE.

sometimes gas gauges are a fickle thing. My old RAV4 used to stay past full and not move for a solid 100 miles, and then start dropping like a stone afterwards. And sometimes, it would never move down ever, even after 150 miles. I used to flick the instrument panel glass, turn the car off and on, put more gas in, tap the gas tank from the bottom, nothing would get that gauge to move. Until I figured out that I had to clap 3 times, dance around in a circle and provide an effing stool sample before the damn needle would read the correct fuel level. In short, don’t trust the gauge. When the gas nozzle clicks, let it be, let the dealer deal with it.

I learned from my Corolla Hybrid that the DTE won't take into account any battery assisted mileage, so the habit I've developed is to reset Trip-B every fill-up. The average mileage indicator is set to Tank Average, which resets itself every time I refuel. I have found the average mileage indicator to be quite accurate, within +/-0.2 L/100km. Some simple math using that and the Trip-B mileage gives me a very good idea of how many liters I've consumed so far.

I continue to have the "click off before full" problem. When I have 1/4 tank left of a 15+ gal tank, it clicks off at 9 gallons. I put on a head lamp (never spill a drop) and 'top off' more times than I care to count. And when I'm done I have 12+ gallons on the gas pump. DTE says 445 miles or so. I have had it in for a "tank replacement" two (or is it three?) times. I wish I could declare it a lemon car issue and get something for it.

If you’re squeezing 12g with 1/4 tank left you’re over filling it. There are several gallons sloshing around when DTE reads zero. There is a thread somewhere that has a report of many miles driven when the screen says refuel (60+ IIRC). I don’t know that anybody has run it out.

If you’re topping g off that aggressively I’d be afraid you are trashing the evap system. When I run to 0 DTE I get about 11g +\-

I have had my 2022 used XSE since October. It never has taken more than about 10 gallons, yet says it has 25 miles left, the gauge is a couple dashes above E and the low fuel light is on. I decided something had to give, so last time I filled it with 11.76 gallons and could see the gas in the receptacle (overfilled in other words.) Seemed fine, then the next time I drove it, a check engine light came on. I took it in and they said a restrictor something was defective and this fix would allow it to fill all 14.5 gallons. That was just a couple days ago. Nothing has changed yet but probably will not until I use some gas, put some in and everything is reset.

I have a 2023 rav4 le and I'm having the same issue. It just started so I'm taking a wait and see approach for now, but this has been and on going issue for rav4 owners since 2020. The problem was on the hybrid models. I've owned my Rav4 for 2 months so I'm very irritated with toyota for not disclosing this issue. Hope this helps.

I had an issue with my gauge reading 3/4 full but was actually 100% full. Took it in and they replaced a sender freed up the rollover valve. No sure if it is fixed yet but will know at the next fillup.
