I know quite a few people here have installed gasoline heaters (Webasto or Eberspächer) in their RAV4 PHEVs. Honestly I find it a bit funny to use a gasoline heater to heat up an electric car! Yes, I get the benefit of not having to start up the engine for a short journey just for some heat - personally I'm perfectly fine with just the heated seat and a nice warm jacket on short journeys and will resort to ICE heat on longer ones.

There is nothing funny to have Webasto in cold weather areas as Finland or Canada. I think its just the best assessory you can by for winter. I have got Webasto in 4 earlier vehicles. 3 Landcruisers 1 RAV4 2016 and now I have in my Land cruiser and RAV4 Prime 2023. My daughter has also Webasto in her RAV4 2012 model.
Edit. Yes. Its my second RAV4 Prime model. First was 2020, and was always disapointed that it hasnt Webasto. 65000 km driven I changed that for new one with Webasto. Happy trails so far.

The early air cooled Porsches (356 and 911), you could have the Webasto heaters installed at the factory, all neatly plumbed to the gas tank.

I see there are cheapies on the market now, knockoffs, about $1000.00 cheaper than a Espar or Webasto. You get what you pay for of course! I ran for my Espar for 7 hours in my crane cab today, love that thing.

In Finland Webasto belongs to every year 23 models of Prime as standard.
Certainly not true, it's a 2500-3000€ option.

I like a warm car as much as the next guy and will readily admit that a Webasto is nice. But it's not 2500€ nice to me. The ICE that the car comes with has plenty of heating capability when the heat pump can't manage. And it rarely gets below -10C in southern Finland. Probably a different deal if you live in the north and/or have to drive every day no matter the weather.

Yes I forgott that only all business models do have Webasto as standard which I Naturally bought. I have Premium business edition. By the way I have allways bought my RAV4:s as business model and they have payed with my own money, not as leasing version. It have been ghanged and the-24 model is not anymore with Webasto as standard. -23 model were with Webasto free charge.
Edit. I didnt find anymore that -23 business editions price list, and -24 list says that Webasto is not free of charge. So I must be lucky. Yes. Congrats to me.

I have thisone in my car. It is with ”Thermo Connect” and A small button beside steering wheel. I have used only that button couse my car is in heated carage.

I'm in Michigan and not in northern Finland or Saskatchewan. I wear a goosedown coat, turn on the seat heater and steering wheel heater, and hope for the best. Although 30 years ago I did not expect the inside of my cars to be a climate-controlled bubble, I have to say I now expect to be cooled in the summer and warmed in the winter. And if I have to burn some gasoline to accomplish that, I'm willing to manipulate the R4P's bizarre controls to achieve it. It's not like the heat I get almost immediately from my Ford F150, but then again my truck doesn't get between 32 and 190 miles per gallon either. Great discussion about all of this so far-- although I have never heard of a "business" option on the Rav4 in North America. I'd love a free Webasto-- had one in a VW back in the 1960's!

I wear a goose down coat, turn on the seat heater and steering wheel heater, and hope for the best....
Me too, and it was -6F out this morning! On short rides, say under 10 minutes or so, there is little point in turning on the heater while in EV mode it just isn't going to generate enough heat to matter because all of the car and its HVAC ducting is too cold for it to overcome. So yes a goose down coat and seat/steering wheel heat is great, and gloves if it's too cold still. On longer drives will just go HV mode and hit the heater as soon as it's warmed up.

It's not just you, but operative were...medium weight down, not just 'a jacket or no jacket. And combined w/ steering wheel and seat warmers can go a long ways to keep you comfortable enough, though certainly warmer cabin is preferred. And if all heating options fail, I can always don this guy I bought when I moved to Colorado from sunny California, good to at least -30C! If it's really cold I will take this in the car, without wearing it, in case the car ever breaks down:

Link to jacket?

I carry a 2000 watt Jackery 'solar generator' with me while off grid with no garage, even though I have the 1500 watt inverter option. Can't use the inverter when it's cold as it will try and start the engine as it is below -10 etc. Useful for the block heater for an hour or so in -30 before starting the Prime XSE gas engine up. But also to run a few 120V 300 watt heaters for the Jackery for cabin heat. I wish Toyota would make it easier to understand how the battery heating works, if it even has it. The dealerships know nothing and the mechanics are only told what they need to know.
